Personally speaking, tags are irrelevant for me. I don't use them for organization or search, and my current software parses artist & title from the filename.

I say ditch the tags!

*but, I just ripped my entire library to 320CBR this last summer, and am in no hurry to re-rip just yet. I'll get a few years under my belt with my "good enough" files first!:tritongue:
 
I rip to flac, same fedility as wave files since it is a lossless format but it saves you space.
Most DJ software programs cant read them but the one I use can and it is taggable. Oh yea flac files can be 24 bit.
 
All my files are at 320 CBR and I'm actually ripping to WAV now.

Nah, not this time. I just gave my rating of the different mediums. I am not trying to convert anyone, just spewing info.

Folks should run off of whatever medium they are most comfortable with.

Yours may well be bigger than mine.......but then again, I can lick my eyebrows....:triwink:

i'll stick with what I have here, because it works well for me




oh just one thing, you need to post a pic of you trying to lick your eyebrows,
then others can try it too :) we might have a comp of that who knows

It's already taggable.

AudioGrabber appends the ID3 V1 tag data to the end of a WAV, and certain DJ software can read and write those tags :)

I believe ALAC (Apple's version of FLAC) is also lossless, smaller than WAV and tag'able.
 
Yeah, like Rick said. My trusty old Mixmeister Pro 5 works fine with WAV files and so does OtsDJ. I am sure that Rockit does too. :)

By the way Rick, MM is pretty much dead. Would it be possible for you to come up with a similar program? I could send a lot of $$ your way if you could...
 
DJ Gaffle>>Sure, if most of your patrons are sloppy drunk, they're not caring about music sound quality... they're most likely trying to look at tail in the club. I've come behind other DJ's in sets who had questionable Limewire sourced music. Most of my music collection is ripped from CDs at 320K or from quality record pools. I've seen the crowd's energy increase with my better sounding, harder hitting music files compared to theirs. If you're the type of person that cares about your sound, you'd do your best to insure you're getting the best quality music files along with quality equipment. If you're the type that is playing on cheap Nady speakers, you probably won't notice or care about the difference.

So would you buy cheap shoes for your kids feet? ...They're just kids, it doesn't matter, they grow like weeds anyway.

Cheap tires for your wife's car? ...Nobody'll notice, they're on the dirty concrete anyways... it doesn't rain here very often either... she'll just need to go extra slow in the rain.

Cheap dog food for your dog? ...It's just a dog, he'll eat anything.

Now that was very well said, the fact that you've noticed the energy levels of the crowd increase because of your better sounding files says it all!I have found exactly the same thing thats why i'm constantly searching & upgrading my files with better sourced ones.
