I just downloaded an app called DJ Control for my Driod phone. It is suppose to emulate some of the basic functions of a Hercules RMX controller midi functions over a WiFi connection.

If it works as advertised I can really only think of one use for it since it is soooo basic.... and that's to remotely start music for Grand Entrances....

I haven't tried it yet since I'm at work...

The only concern I have is it playing nice with the HD2500 so that switching between the two as controllers don't conflict with each other.
 
Rob, do you think it would work as just a remote control without a controller? If it does, I just might download it. If not, since I dont have a controller, it wouldnt do any good for me.

Just looking at the controls onscreen and not knowing how responsive they would be they include:

Master Volume
Lock (I'm guessing Tempo Lock since since it sits above each Tempo slider)
Sync
PFL
Tempo A and B sliders
Level Slider for A and B decks
Jog Wheels for decks A and B
Cue
Play/Pause for decks A and B
Crossfader
FX

You'd still have to be at a computer to load songs on each deck as you don't have the ability to view your music database from your phone or other Driod device.

One thing to note.... I just read a little more and if you don't have a WiFi network both laptop and device can connect to you can create an Ad Hoc connection.
 
The Droid I have can be used as a hot spot. So, I just wonder if it will work. Thanks Rob. I might try it tomorrow. Also, I wonder how much of a delay it would have too.

I was thinking much the same thing.... you do have to download a Driver and a Server App for your laptop to make it all work... and according to the instructions you may have to Map it in VDJ 7 but, in VDJ 5/6 the Hercules RMX Map should work.
 
Ok. Ill download it in the morning, and play around with it tomorrow after I install my new hard drive on my computer. Thanks again Rob.
 
I just got the Dell Venue Pro (Windows7 Phone) and on Saturday I used the Remote Desktop App and it was flawless. I used it when I was doing the bouquet and Garter It was so cool to have Traktor in the palm of my hands. I love the remote desktop because I have full access to my laptop on my phone...
 
The Droid phone I have can by used as a hot spot using my unlimited data plan. There is really only 1 place I go to that doesnt have an internet connection. I can connect up to 5 different devices up to my phone.

All droids can be a hot spot. I thought about the hot spot too - but 20.00 extra for 2 GB / month vs 30.00 extra for 3 GB / month (when I signed up) had me sold! I spoke to the almighty vzw about unlimited and it's a nogo. 20.00 a month for 1 GB of data / month. To be honest, there were no 'unlimited' wifi plans. The choices were 1 GB, 2 GB, 3 GB, 5 GB and 10 GB / month.

Current plans are

For Smartphones & Feature Phones
Mobile Broadband Connect & 3G Mobile Hotspots
(Not sure if this counts the Droid X - when I was looking to sign up, mine was not considered under this plan - I think they get you on the term "mobile hotspot")
20.00 / month for 2 GB and 20.00 for each addtl GB over (or part of)

For Tablets, Mobile Hotspots, Netbooks & Notebooks
Mobile Broadband Plans
20.00 / month for 1 GB and 20.00 for each addtl GB over (or part of)
35.00 / month for 3 GB and 10.00 for each addtl GB over (or part of)
50.00 / month for 5 GB and 10.00 for each addtl GB over (or part of)

My plan isnt thru Verizon. Its thru Sprint. And I have all unlimited everything on my phones. The last phone I had couldnt be used as a hot spot, cause it wasnt compatable, and it was a smart phone. This one, I can use it for a hot spot.
 
Nah. Didnt mean to get off subject, lol. By the way Rob, I have the app downloaded, but really havent tinkered with it much today. This computer took longer than I expected to get up and running again.
 
I d/l it too - looks neat but I'm not sure how I'd use it. When I meet y'all, I'll show you the pretty lil turntables on my phone.

=)
 
I just got a Droid X over the weekend and downloaded that app as well. Haven't tried to set it up yet, but it looks like it's just a basic midi controller. You'll have to still load tracks through the computer. No way to see what's loaded on the decks otherwise. Looking for a remote control app that let's me see a snap shot of my laptop screen.

Well for one all you need is a WiFi network... Internet access is not required. Or you can setup an Ad-Hock WiFi network.... but really simpliest would be a cheap and small wireless network router velcroed to a shelf in your rack.
 
So, I got to play with this today and it couldn't be any easier for even a technofobe to use....

1. Download Network Driver for Wifi Midi per the instructions within the app
2. Restarted computer
3. Downloaded Server app to laptop
4. Configured Server app
5. Started VDJ
6. I had to then map the device
7. Rock n Roll...... ready to play!

No I don't think I will be replacing my HD2500 with this app but, it does give me an option for when I can't be right at my mixer to start or fade to the next song....

Its amazing that a service can sell you a plan and call it unlimited and then when you try and do something like this to put a cap on it and charge you more money. Fight the power ).

You could - but Motorola is targeting rooted phones. If you root it, or attempt to root it, your phone becomes a lovely paper weight.
