Digital Song Request Service - DJ's Get Paid!

To many ads? Support ODJT and see no ads!
Either you like the service or you don't. It's really that simple. If you don't, then move along .. why do you have to bash of a service that you would not use but others may?

Likewise, no one here other than you has heard of charging guests to attend a private personal event, like a birthday party or wedding .. I wonder who the odd one out is.

So let me get this right .. you've never heard of people paying for a request .. but you have heard of people paying (tipping) for a request.

:hammerhead::shrug:
There's a difference in someone paying for a request and someone giving a tip to a DJ. I have even heard of a DJ having a tip jar. I've never done it but I have heard of DJs who do it.

Now let me ask this question. If you were in a bar or club and you went to the DJ to make a request, how many of you would pay to make a request?

Haha well thank you all for the comments, they’re all very helpful in improving the service. I’m probably dancing along the lines of the rules of this forum at this point, so I don’t want to self promote the company too much on here. I do encourage you all to visit my Instagram (@demanddjcoo) and I will gladly answer all questions or concerns through DM.

That being said, yes, the service at this point is really targeted toward public bar/club DJ’s where the guests are there either for free or for a cover charge. We want to help DJ’s organize requests and eliminate traffic around sets and potential stepped on power cords, spilled drinks, etc. The fan who makes a request is only charged a small fee, and is refunded if the DJ rejects the request. Our current membership is subscription based. We are discussing adding a free-request version as well.

Call it a tip, call it a payment, call it whatever you like - if someone is handing you money to play a a song, then you are being paid for a request. I (and others I'm sure) have given money to a DJ to play a song that I would like to hear. You could say I paid for it .. or tipped him/her.

i see a problem/issue with the name “demand”. I really don’t want anyone demanding anything except if their name is on the contract.

VDJ has Ask the DJ, I tried it at home, since it isintergraternwith virtual DJ. Requests come up right in to your queue. Then there is a way to setup up to receive tips if you want via paypal I think. You can also message back the requestor.

Personally I like seeing the person making the request even when doing karaoke. But I might use Ask the DJ for karaoke one day
i have been using it for karaoke for 11 months now. Have never had a functional issue. I created bar code for the link and have it on laminated page at each table. Works really well.

I just can’t believe anybody would actually pay to use a online system to request a song. I don’t do clubs but at private events I have had a few people try to tip to get a song played. Requesting a song in person has a much better chance of getting played. One notable case was at a wedding when someone who looked like he came straight out of the Godfather movie came over and asked me how much was it for an hour of overtime, immediately paid me in cash and asked me to play Frank Sinatra. He asked nicely but I understood completely. Lol

Use to be pretty common back in the late 70s/80s ...

I don't bother the DJ when I'm at a bar or club. However, when I'm DJing at the casino, it's not uncommon for someone to put a few dollars or a 5-chip on my console.

Great idea, I will have to add that to the karaoke books and a link on the page where you download the lists online. But I just realized why I never used Ask the DJ at a event. Most of the time the laptops aren’t connected to the internet at events. I just changed cell service and have a hotspot available with a ton of data Included. so it is doable now.

There are some who have put out a tip jar at a bar or club. I wouldn't do that. I would just accept what I'm being paid as good enough or if I feel it's not enough have a conversation with the owner/manager. If they say no to paying me more, then I would move on to a place that will pay me what I want.

There was a mention about a DJ in a club getting paid $400 a night to play there. That's someone who gets paid that much or more is a headliner DJ. That's a DJ with a large following who can pack a club.

You can’t generalize it could be a DJ in a large club, a DJ a smaller club and has a following or someone who knows how to negotiate.. There are likely people making xx to x,xxx or more depending on the venue, who they are and what they can do.. But If you are making serious money you aren’t worrying about getting tips to play requests. I don’t do bars or clubs but once 25+ years ago I was brought in to fill in at a small bar. I was paid very well and something extra because it went a hr longer as it was a leap year. Hated it, being cooped up in a booth. Then there was the time before the smoking ban I did a private party in a bar in NYC and the whole place smelled like a ashtray and I was in the fog bank. I don’t know how the guys do it. Especially a friend who used to do guest spots in a cigar bar.in NYC

I routinely get paid $400 to play at bars not clubs and ther are a Ton of guys those bars could hire for $100 why do they pay 4 times as much
1. Professionalism they know I will show up, not get drunk and stupid not offend anyone, and that I know how to rotate a crowd
2. I have recognizable name in my region
3. Clean and neat set up
4. Absolutely no hassle to deal with me

No problems with what you said. In this area there are a ton of DJs. So an owner finding a DJ isn't difficult around here. Now finding a good DJ is another thing. On average a DJ playing in a bar gets paid $150. Some $100. There are exceptions. My friend was getting paid at the end before the Private Place Lounge closed down $200. He was the exception, not the rule.

Here's my $400 gig. Show up at 8:30 pm, plug my controller into the jacks in the wall, start at 9:00 and play until 1:00. If you're in the Rhode Island area, swing by. Just set your expectations low... there's no dancefloor. The people-watching, however, is tremendous. The entire staff is friendly and the security team rocks.

Technically, the gig pays more than $400, but I pay out a percentage to the agent who books me on it.

Your issue is “here”. What about ”there”. Those “here” may not spend. But they do over there. Why worry or talk about a bar which closed or someone getting paid min.wage? Do you really think everyone works for peanuts? Of course not. I’ve told you before you need a “mentor” who understands where you are, who you are & where you want to or should go. You can’t totally understand what goes on in ocean if you are always swimming in the pond.

How is that casino? I was going to stop 1.5 years ago when we were traveling from Newport up to Boston, but it was just opening and wasn't sure there would have been much open.

It's great for a local casino, but it can't hold a candle to Foxwoods or Mohegan Sun. Even Twin River (its sister property) is much bigger. It's the kind of place you go for a couple of hours maybe... grab a drink, play the slots and then go home. The online reviews all mention the smoke, but the ventilation is quite good considering it's the only place in the area where people can smoke indoors - I don't go home feeling like I need a shower. I wouldn't make a special trip from Connecticut, but if you're headed from Newport to Boston and enjoy slots and table games, it's a decent place to stop.

We were staying in Newport a couple of days on our way to another couple days in Portsmouth (with the stop in Boston). They had ads for it all over Newport which is why I thought of stopping.

I wouldn't normally go there, as you mentioned, I have Mohegan (which I go to shows regularly) and Foxwoods much closer.

The parent company ran the Newport Grand slot parlor prior to building Tiverton Casino... they transferred the gaming license over to Tiverton and closed up Newport Grand, which is why they advertised it so heavily in Newport. Despite it not having a real nightclub feel - I'm on a small riser stage in front of a 9-panel video wall and the house system keeps the music at a too-reasonable level - I enjoy playing there.
