So I pulled the trigger and bought the mixer to replace my Numark....First impressions; beautiful looking mixer....the sliders are like air; hardly any resistance at all.

I swear; music sounds different than with the Numark....

Question: do you run the -10db pad on or off? and why.....I find with it off it's hard to get any sort of response on the meters....
 
When mine worked, I kept the -10db pad off. Unfortunately, the mic on/off button stopped working after 5 months of light use, so it now sits on the floor in my office. Nice mixer, but the buttons weren't made for even regular DJ use.

In regards to the meters, they're not very responsive, except for the master meter which is pretty much a joke. In order to get anything to register there, you need to turn up the master level knob to the 3 o'clock position. If you happen to use a powerful sound system, you'll find the 3 o'clock position to be way too loud.
 
I dont know if Brandon had a bad mixer from the start or not... but on my denon x500 i have the master at 12 o clock and the gains on each line at 1 o' clock, and all my level meters show up and respond quite well to each adjustment i make, wether its individual line gains or master gains.

Similar to my own experience.
 
I also have this mixer and all my tracks are run through mp3gain.

I hardly get any meter response.

What (and where) is this 10db pad you're referencing?

Maybe that's the cause of very little meter response.
 
This might be related.... does the DB pad affect the Mic inputs? I couldn't use the Mic inputs on mine because they went into feedback every time I turned a mic on.... even with the level only up to the second tick mark.... but when I put the same Mic thru my external mixer first it was fine into one of the demons channels instead of the mic channel.
 
If your meters aren't lighting up, your gain staging is wrong. Turn down the input gain at the amp so you can use a hotter signal in the mixer. This lowers your noise floor.

My comment was directed at some of the previous posts that were discussing the output and channel meters.

Your feedback situation is straight forward. There was too much gain in the system (loop gain > 1). Were these wireless mics? Some wireless units offer line and mic outputs. If you send the line output to the mixer's mic input you can quickly have too much gain.

I'll have everything out in the next couple days.... at the time of the problem I couldn't troubleshoot.... and since the wireless worked fine through my outboard mixer which is how I had always done things in the past... the X500 has what appeared to be a better solution with it's two mic inputs but, just gained to high.... but, that could be as you say my mics....
 
Silvio had posted some info as well; I believe my issue is a gain issue with the mixer; He intimated that the mixer had a ton of headroom (it does) and that the master needs to be in the area of 3 pm....Mixer up; gain on crossover/speakers down.

like Rob; my gear is in winter storage; I will re visit this in April or so....

Gotta say though, in terms of sound quality; the Denon stomps my old Numark...
