250 years is a pretty momentous number. I recall our bicentennial in 1976. The entire country was absolutely abuzz with patriotism. This year I see no similar feelings with the 250th. My wife and I are throwing an epic party but I am not seeing this elsewhere in great significant. All the celebrations I see appear perfunctory at best. They are certainly no bigger than any off year. Perhaps the feeling is different by you.

I think there is blame all around. The economy is unsteady, fire dangers seem bigger than ever, and then there are the huge political divides not just between major parties but also within those parties. Our 200th celebration felt magical. Our 250th seems like an also ran.

This country largely lost it's patriotism after 9/11. There is no patriotism left. Nobody cares. People are beat down economically trying to keep a roof over their heads and bills paid. Gen Z "Doesn't want to work". Nobody believes in "The American Dream" any more. Lots of changes over the last 30 years. Covid did a number on people's mental health big time. Current leadership masquerades around claiming patriotism, but actions show all thoughts and decisions are for big business, and making money one way or another. They are actively displacing people, tearing up the woods, and beautiful pastures across the country for freaking DATA CENTERS that wil potentially contaminate local drinking water, AND USE UP MOST OF THE WATER in areas where water is already LOW. They are forcing massive strains on energy grids, and forcing regular American Citizens TO PAY FOR THE DATA CENTERS through heavily increased energy bills. Not to mention the Data Centers have a constant him/buzz that is loud and they are bringing lots of noise to rural areas that were always queit. Not to mention localized EMF off the charts near the data centers.

People are PISSED OFF. Everything is getting expensive. GEN Z, and Millennials do not see a good future or have very little hope for retirement. They are telling us our jobs will all be deleted over the next 5-20ish years. Lots of people are burnt out.

There is a graphic going on around here that Ocean City, MD's Memorial weekend revenue was down 35.3% this year. That is because people are tapped out, and it is too expensive to go to Ocean City now with all the parking fees, food costs being astronomical, hotel costs crazy high, and more people unemployed due to government and tech lay offs, and every other company freezing or slowly hiring.

So yeah, it isn't good out there. Nobody cares about Patriotism any more because of it.

I feel differently. There are issues everywhere. Sure we have our own. But this country is still great. I talk to people around the world on a regular basis. For many issues, people still believe the USA is the place to be.
Yes, complaining about whatever administration is in power has become a cottage industry. Some people have always liked to blame an administration they don’t like for their own problems. That has grown tremendously.

But there’s still plenty of reasons to be proud to be an American. Just as there’s reasons to be proud to be from a lot of countries.

Tons of opportunities are available, employment and business opportunities.

The building trades are an amazing opportunity right now. Electricians are an example. College is available for more people than ever. Even though I don’t like the current student loan system.

I believe the stock market will continue to grow substantially. Sure, there will be bumps, even crashes, along the way, but overall it will continue growing. History, every “ crash” will recover except for people who bail and for people investing in junk. I saw an analysis of stock portfolios. The ones that did best were from dead people. Because people weren’t tinkering with it and locking in losses. It was just growing with time. The lesson is buy good companies and keep it. Trying to time the market doesn’t work. Time in the market does.
