I painted my face like a clown
Hey hey now don't imitate JTV! :triwink:
I painted my face like a clown
Looks better but I would kill the "if you are willing to make a few concessions" part and keep the quality of services part. You can still be completely upfront and honest without selling yourself short.
Lastly, and as I've mentioned before Tom by far puts up the most compelling posts. Christ, this is his first one in months and it's on fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiire!![]()
So what do we all think people think when they see an overweight/Obese DJ show up... no matter what they are wearing?
Seems to be a lot of tubbies around (270 myself). Most of the DJs I have met are fat, the young ones tend to be slimmer, some of the older ones too, but the 30-50 range seem to be rather robust in the middle.
Do we not think that also says something to the guests at a party?
The amount of money being spent has ZERO bearing on the amount of respect the institution warrants.
A wedding is not a celebration, it is a solemn, legal commitment. The reception is the celebration in honor of the commitment.
I think what you guys are missing is Tommy is making no bones about what he offers and he stated it's a hobby. These days it's acceptable to wear a polo and slacks to a wedding as a guest why would the entertainer overdress

I think there are greater challenges to our industry than if someone can do a double windsor knot or not. Lets work on educating the people about the benefits of hiring legal and licensed DJs who have some actuall know how behind a mike/table. This is really just ignoring the elephant in the room.
How often do you argue with your wife/GF over something stupid only to find out there was something else at the root of it?
I think this is the same kind of deal.
It's about presenting yourself as a legitimate professional. If you don't want to present yourself as a professional don't expect to be perceived as one.
Ding ding ding - winner!
Thanks Steve...I couldn't have said it better myself.
Tommy is semi-retired and is a self-proclaimed hobbyist - fine for him.
I want my clients to know I am NOT a hobbyist and dress is part of that.
I see, so the only way to be a legit professional is to wear a suit or tux?
No - If you want your business to be perceived as a legitimate business, not just a guy looking to make some beer money; you present yourself accordingly.
Patrick - I never said a suit or tux.....
If you showed up at the dentists office for a root canal (first visit) and he was wearing a grateful dead shirt with shorts; would you let him dig around in your mouth?
Can he/she do the job is all I care about.
...and not having been to that office before, how do you make that determination?
Do you consider the cleanliness of the office? Do you ask yourself why the so-called professional can't seem to afford up to date equipment, or perhaps present himself in a clean dentists smock....
It's all about perception; I walk into an unkempt office and the dentist presents himself looking like he's just gotten out of bed, my perception and desire to use his services will wane....
Can he/she do the job? anyone can do the job; some not so well....
Im laughing so hard at the bully like mighty than thou side of this conversation. Thom said he has no interest in doing anything different yet some just must fight tooth and nail to downgrade such a thought. Bottom line is. If a person is as busy as they want to be or better and they wear a football uniform to all of their gigs they are achieving their goals and the clients helping them reach those goals apparently are cool with it. Why talk down Steve to folks who likely do as many or more gigs than you do in a yr? Just curious.
