I have confirmed that it's a bad/sticky switch. The 'scene' switch will sometimes stick, causing the light to scroll thru all the scenes without stopping. I have taken the unit apart and cleaned and lubricated it well. So far, it's working like a charm --- the way it was meant to work.
There are some cons --- forgive me Kirby, but you may find this of interest too.
1. You can only scroll thru the scenes one direction. Up.
2. When in blackout, you can't scroll thru scenes. If you're running a scene and press blackout, it will blackout. But, once you hit the scene button again, it goes back to scene 1 and starts up. It would be nice if you could select a scene while in blackout and then come out of the blackout on that scene.
Honestly, I still think it's a waste of money and I'd buy a dmx controller before wasting money on it. In fact, last week I won an Obey 10 on Ebay for $22 shipped. I'm going to use it for simple uplighting, but I'm hoping maybe I can squeeze the strips onto it as well....at least until I get my new Freestyler lappy built and running.
It looks like I'll be able to test drive the Chauvet Color Strips from DJ Grey. Jim bought the color strip but never used it. Still new in the box. Also, I found this video that was helpful.

Dunno, why not? I tend to overdo things.
Still on the fence, but if I had to get one or the other right now..I'd say it might be the strips before the pallettes.
I just spent the afternoon removing all the old pars off the truss. Top side will be holding the colorstrips, a couple of strobes in the middle and some spin-n-pukes hanging on the bottom side. (The spin-n-pukes will soon be replaced too.)

Color Palette has good sound active modes
I have a color palette and want another. It makes a good center piece to a truss for doing dancefloor washes, strobes of any color, and really interesting patterns.
I have more control via dmx over CP than most other units.
It is sound active optional on all modes, where some lights are only SA on one mode.
It stores in any LCD monitor area.

The digital mode selector is kinda annoying. I curse small dip switches, but found myself wishing for dips.

I have never tried the palettes, however I own five colorstrips. I like them very much, a little too bright sometimes, but that is better than not bright enough. As an aside that has nothing to do with this I bought a flower 420B, actually two of them, recently I compared one 420B to three color strips and the 420B was brighter, 60 1 watt LEDs. Very cool wash light.
Depends on your use, and of course they are fully DMXable and dimable. I believe I will get a lot of use out of these, but not for dance floor lighting or pointing them at a crowd. We also own a lighting business separate from our DJ business, they will see there use in this business.

That's why I like my Wiedamark Par cans...they are dimmable...on the fly....they are strobe-able ...on the fly. I don't have to pre program a "dim" pattern(s).

I'm looking at the manual; Channels 2,3 and 4 offer dimming between 210 and 219 (pretty precise)...don't know how easy it would be to control that in a "live" situation, but it's do-able.

Like all the fixtures I know, the CS is fully dimmable while under DMX control. When you are running it sound-active, it is not. If you access sound-active mode with your DMX controller, you are still running it sound-active so in that case, you would not be able to dim it. If you create your own scenes / chases, you can set your DMX controller to trigger the scenes using the controller's built-in mic and dim at will.
A good way to do it would be to use some of the stand-alone, sound-active settings for faster tunes and then program a nice slow fade in some of the more romantic, deeper colors.
I'm close to ordering the colorstrip....
