Budget Chauvet moving heads?

Been looking around and i'm kind of sold on the idea of upgrading my scanners now, What do you think about the American DJ Comscan LED scanners??? There's some great deals on them , and in the videos i can find look like they might be great

I am not sure what Scanners you have, but the ComScans will probably be a huge downgrade. From the videos I have seen and the demo they had at the local DJ store they suck. They aren't bright at all, twitchy in movement and are just generally crap.

I am not sure what kind of pricing you are finding for those particular lights, but I have said it once and I will say it again. Look at Martin's offerings. The SCX 500 will pretty much beat any budget scanner.

I went through pretty much the same thing you are, trying to find the best bang-for-buck. But unless you want to buy crappy equipment that you will have to replace after a year or so then don't skimp. Save your $$ and buy stuff that will last you longer then you need.

Again, Talk to Ben from NLFX, He has a ton of offering that can fit anyone's budget.

I also know he has some Omnisistem lights that may work for you. I really haven't looked to much into that company but from what I have heard they seem to be along the lines of Chauvet or American DJ's better lights.

My only concern looking at those SCX500 scanners is just on how bright they actually are?? I'm hoping to find the closest Scanner to my budget that resembles 250w Halogen output and most of my other lighting is LED so i'd prefer to keep my lights LED if possible

The Scx 500's use 150w halogen bulbs. The q-spot 150's are actually going to be about the same I think:sqwink:. But they are also about $200 more. It is going to be hard to find a led light with the output of a 250w halogen on a tight budget. The q-spot 260's should be pretty close. But they are quite a bit more. It's gonna be about $1500 or so for a pair of them. And as far as I know they aren't even at dealers yet. (Ben can confirm if this is true or not)

The nice thing about those scanner are they are 150w but because of the superior optics that Martin uses they have more out then most things on the market. And even look better then some with 250w bulbs.

Go to your local lighting and sound dealer and ask them to demo them for you. It's one thing to look at specs online. But it's another to look at the actual output of the lights.

The other thing you need to think of is if you will be using fog or haze. A cheap $50 light can look awesome in the right situation.

How do you think the SCX500's would compare to Say The American DJ Scan 250 Ex's??? 250 W output and i've found them for around $200 each, I rented a set of 4 of the older version of these Many years ago when i first started and seem to remember them being impressive?

The DJ scans 250's can't even come close to be honest. For another $100 more you can get a Martin light. Not that Martin is the end all be all of lights but for a mobile DJ they are probably among the best.

Again. The optics in the Martin lights are a lot better. So their 150w scanners will look better then ADJ's 250w scanners.

If it was for a pair of them i'd be all about it cam, I'm considering Buying the Martin SCX500's From NLFX, OR I'm also considering first buying 2 of those blizzard Wash Moving Heads that DRZinc posted a link to, I've gotta admit from everything i've seen they look awesome especially for the price, any opinions???

I have not heard of Blizzard Lighting, But I know Chauvet makes the Mini spot which looks the exact same. and is probably the same price if not less.

The min spot sounds like it wouldn't be bright enough, and i'm not impressed by blizzards spot moving heads if you watch their videos, but i am impressed by the looks of the " wash " version of the light, Watch that video and let me know what you all think, looks extremely bright especially for the price

I would say until you have enough $$ saved up to get a decent moving head. I wouldn't waste your money on those. Look at the scanners I recommended before.

You can't expect $1000 light quality out of something that costs less then 1/3rd of that price.

I kinda figured selling would be the root of the problem, After he just show's up outta no where like that...:sqlaugh:

2 Martin scanners in action. I will eventually upgrade to the Q-spot 150, but I will miss them for sure.
