sometimes I grow weary of playing some songs but also know that If I limit to taste Im actually cheating my client. Having said that I usually get either the Chicken Dance, YMCA and Macarena as a do not play on the rare occasion that anyone limits my list.

Papa,

I am at a wedding generally speaking about 40 times a year, so I would say I typically hear the Chicken dance about 20 times a year. And no I don't play that, the Hokey Pokey, Electric Slide, Cha Cha Slide, The Twist, Limbo Rock or any other of numerous songs unless they are requested! The simple fact is they are requested from time to time and they are played, This last wedding the Chicken Dance, Electric Slide, YMCA and Hokey Pokey were specifically requested by the Bride and Groom, in fact the Chicken Dance, YMCA and Electric Slide were on the MUST play list!

I have been asked to play Chicken Dance, Macarena, Electric & Cha Cha slide, YMCA and Celebration is supposed to be the first fast dance to kick it off. She doesn't know what the Cupid Shuffle is so she checked off no but if it's requested then I can play it. This is for one wedding. Not sure how I'm supposed to get the chicken dance in there but I'll figure it out. She wants it for the kids, supposed to be a fair number there. :)

Wow! Now I haven't heard that played in YEARS, in Philly.... probably close to 10 years.

About 90% of the time here. Very rarely do we see this or other Cheese songs on the DNP playlist.

In fact yesterday, the Bride's Mother came up in the last hour and asked us to play both the Hokey Pokey and the Chicken dance and we had almost everyone that was left up on the dance floor. Bottom line, they had a good time with it and I am glad to provide that good time for them.

I have all those songs on my iPod, and I dig them :)

If I ever hire a DJ from here -- Steve might get get the nod, unless there are others willing to make me happy, and leave their opinions at home :sqwink:

It sounds like you think many people won't play them if requested... I'm not getting your repsonses. With the exception of Matt - RIP :sqlaugh: - I think everybody here would play it if requested. This is the 2nd time in this thread where you seem to be making something out of nothing.

I'm confused by eezee's response, but he didn't say he wouldn't. Nor did eldjdelcaribe.

For what it's worth, I can vouch for Steve's market. Folks tend to like tunes they know and can dance to. :)

Gosh, I used to play the line dance standards more than once at weddings and all. It was by request. I didn't get many calls for the Hokey Pokey but the Chicken Dance and Electric Boogie and Celebration were always requested.

If that's the kind of crowd we have we'll throw in Da Butt, Booty Call and Perculator for good measure. Make 'em sweat. :)

Sorry Son.

Just one of those weekends. Got a bottle of rum, some friends to remember -- times to forget -- and music to play...

Bear with me, if ya would...

That is common on every forum people putting words in your mouth that are not true. If requested of course I will play it. But I am damn glad it has not been requested in a long time. I use other songs to get my guests up on the dance floor since the majority of my events are for Hispanics.

Interesting to me that it appears that more people play it very little, than those who say they play it a lot.

Heck, I can't even tell you the last time I heard Daddy's Little Girl..... no kidding.

There is a song called "Daddy's Little Girl"?

If the client wants it. No problem.
I hate playing "Crank that" Solja boy. This song ALWAYS clears the dancefloor (except for the 2 or 3 yahoos that requested it)

What is the Hucklebuck?

I live in rural Pennsylvania
I think it's required by law.
(unless it's on the DO NOT PLAY list)

and for the earlier post
wondering where to work it into the night.

I use the speeded-up version...
so I put it at the end of a fast set.
just before going into a slow song.
if the crowd is really hopping with the chicken dance
I'll slip a polka in before slowing it down.
