Sometimes I have a craving for something that isn't being sold any more and what I had been looking for is the American DJ Tempest. Never saw it before but I wanted it and it just showed up from some DJ in the east. Must say it was packed good now to see if it still works. I got my fingers crossed.

I've still got one of those power hungry monsters hanging up in the garage.

From previous experience - Be sure to carry a backup lamp and avoid moving the unit until it has completely cooled down.

that really IS a "light show in a box"...
even if it is large and heavy, it could certainly replace your whole light show.
surprised they haven't made an LED version

School dance cancelled today now i have to wait till my Reception on Friday to see the lights in action.
I hope you got paid something!!!

This is close but not quite the same.

So now that I have fallen in love with my Tempest I have a question.

Normally I am not a upsell guy but now I want to consider doing it with my light. Normally I will take 2 to 4 Star Balls and a Jelly Fish light or Lazer at no price increase.

So I just recently set up the Tempest in front of my DJ booth in my office and off to the side set up my crank stand with 4 pocket scans on it. When i do my presentation to my clients I will show them what I usually take at no additional cost then i will demonstrate the Tempest and then the Pocket Scans. Any advice on what would be a reasonable extra charge for each additional light system.

If a Bride and Groom would like to add the Tempest what would you tack on to your fee?

I am not saying you will do this but one of the worst things a DJ can do is throw in lights just to get the Gig. That sets bad precedents. When you upgrade you should charge more. I try to get my return in 10 or less Gigs/times that I use the newly purchased equipment.

I don't believe in the statement some use that say "If I have it I won't charge more!". My question to those is "If you have a Limo service and you are charging a certain price, would you keep that price the same if you started offering Stretch Limos?"

If you have a hard time figuring out what to charge you should consult with your accountant who can best advise you what you need to do for a successful Business!

It's logic (I'd like to think). I have some lights that I roll with my show - but if you want the big bad boys, y'er gonna pay fer it.

I remember seeing the Tempest a few years back and thinking, Good grief...I could just bring that light and that would be my entire light show! Never saw it in action until now, though. I see that my thoughts were dead on. Man, that's a cool light!
