AMD or Intel
Searching for a new laptop. I know about specs, processor, etc with Intel, but not AMD. I'm not very familiar with AMD.

So which is better? AMD or Intel?

I know the ranking in Intel (dual core, core2 duo, core2 quad, etc). What are the comparable AMD processors?

And most importantly, which is best for DJing? I can purchase AMD cheaper than Intel it seems.

I've heard AMD is not great for DJ use- is this true?

Running an AMD and an Intel no complaints on either one.

This computer will be for DJ use ONLY. Leaving the video option open in the future, but it doesn't look like it will happen in the next few years. This computer will probably not even touch the internet. I was told I wouldn't need an intense computer for just playing music.

That is true... in fact, as Rick has said, even those little netboboks play Rockit just fine... but the screen is too small.....
 
It's been my experience at least in the desktop arena... that AMD has run a bit cooler and is easier to overclock.

Both have Dual and Quad core chips available. As far as speed comparisons usually AMD will post the Ghz equivalent of their chip.... Their numbering system doesn't tell you much. IMHO

When I build a system I usually try to use system parts made by the same company... (ie if I build an AMD computer I prefer MSI but, that's just my own predjudice) If I build Intel I try to build using an Intel Mobo... why? Because then things play nicer for the most part.

I know you are looking at a laptop so really to be honest either would be just fine.

I think you'll like that computer.... it's very similar in specs to the Toshiba I got off Newegg.

Speed and memory on that are very good... video wont be very good if you want to get into VJ'n with it later on down the road. Reason being is the video card relies on sharing your RAM, this can cause slow downs and down right sketchy video performance at higher resolutions... however it is just fine for karaoke.

I think you'll like the computer but will be looking for an upgrade on down the road.
 
It should run fine, if you do go into video I would boost RAM to 4GB just to have everything running properly.

I've ran both as DJ machines with no problem...

My first DJ machine was an AMD K62-500 and ran without a blip but I also ran it with all other unnecessary software disabled so I figure you should be able to get by with a dual core from any company :sqrolleyes:

That being said I've always found AMD to be slightly more reliable

EDIT: The first test machine I used with MM was a P1- 166 and even that was ok for the most part
 
Thanks for the replies! And no, I'm not looking into video that soon (mainly because its so expensive and not practical for me right now). The computer will probably just play Virtual DJ the whole time.

To get rid of the extra installed programs, would it be better to do a fresh install of the operating system or just uninstall the programs manually? I don't want all of the uninstallers to mess the registry up.
 
Both are capable CPUs, even cheaper ones are going to be sufficient for DJ use.

In general, I witness AMD running cooler which is important. A hot processor is an unhappy processor which means less power efficiency and a computer case that could cook pancakes.

I have no beef with Intel, they make some POWERFUL processors. I just like AMD and have been using them for years...if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
 
I run as my backup a notebook by acer on XP yeah Rick It was loaded as such but it runs Rockit excellent. I have my newest Toshiba on AMD and it runs like wildfire. My previous was also. The old school A40 Toshiba still hanging on is not AMD but running Rockit brilliantly and also XP. Tricky Rickys software rules.
