Regarding the side by side comparison of the QSC and EV.

Wow--tough question----

The QSC employs an innovative new sound technology in the way it produces sound. Incredible lower end sound from small speakers is possible.

The EV speakers demonstrated better sound clarity with less bottom end.

If you are looking for something that mimmicks the clarity of the Bose Sticks, the EV is the choice. Absolutely great for weddings etc.

If you are looking for a easy to carry system for school dances (that require lots of uummph) my vote is for the QSC.

All around the QSC K Series is a fantastic speaker!

Prior to hearing Ben's side-by-side demonstration, i would have said that the QSC K Series is the only mid cost active speaker to consider formobile DJ'ing.

But now I have to say, consider the EV as well!

That's what I found great about Ben's booth. A side-by-side comparison so you could hear for yourself what each speaker sounded like with the same exact input into it. An apples-to-apples comparison in my book. That allows the person buying the system to make their own call --- I personally found the EV line to sound much better than the QSC, and I'll throw in that 70% of my business is school events. I didn't like the muddiness in the low end of the QSC.

I also found it comical that the Bose booth had to stay after hours to display his product because he couldn't compete with the spl volumes that Ben was pushing. :sqwink:

Edit: added pic of the NLFX booth.

There were actually 5 pairs of speakers represented at the NLFX Pro Booth. The EV ZXA5's had to be put on the other side of the truss. :sqeek:

Ben asked me to do a blindfolded listening test with all five.

My preference was in this order;

1) EV ZXA5 damn these sounded good loud!

2) EV TourX 1122

3) EV SB/ZX

4) QSC 8's/Sub

5) QSC 12's

I was hoping you had a pic with those in it....mine of the complete and full booth came out blurry! :sqmad:

Just so everyone knows, the db level was equal for all at the time of the test.

Thanks Randy, and you do have my personal apology. I admit my part and am sorry for messing up your thread.

I personally felt that the conference was a success...albeit there WAS room for improvement. There should be. I don't think anyone ever achieves perfection their first time out. For those that want to bash, you weren't there so how can you speak educatedly about a conference you didn't witness. I've never understood that concept. Attendance to my estimation was more than what was had at any other summer show I've attended.

Again, there were flaws but the overall content was GREAT, imho. Only one infomercial to my understanding and again it was a positive experience to the djs that I brought with me who had never attended a conference before and for the veteran DJ that came with me who's attended several conferences. I just don't understand why negativity has to permeate any and all dj chat boards. Can't we just agree to disagree on some things?

I must say it was a pleasure seeing hiredpower (Keith) again and Ben too!

Its too bad the Bose guy didnt offer to put a set in with the group.

I want to say that my friend Glenn David, who represented Bose at the show, was very accommodating and I think many would be surprised to know that despite the fact that we represent competing brands, we also have great mutual admiration for each other and enjoy a friendship outside the lines of our audio preferences.

His systems serve a need, and there are many satisfied owners of those systems. We can't be everything to everyone, and variety is the spice of life.

While we were not able to do an A/B comparrison, Glenn was a very good sport and allowed me to put an RTA (real time analyzer) on the Bose system while running pink noise into it. It was something my inner geek had always wanted to do. At the end of the day, all each of us ought to do is inform the end user with facts backed by integrity and ethics which enable them to make the call they feel is best for them. I have exhibited at many events with Glenn (and Cap), and have always felt that both were excellent representatives of their line, and people I enjoy the pleasure of knowing.

Ok Ben, my 'inner geek' is asking...

What did your findings show?

Can you share them here?

Can you compare these to other systems that you provided?

Sorry, don't mean to de-rail.... if you want to start another post, that'd be cool.

THANKS!

Joe

Good questions Joe.

Ben, did you put a ROT analyzer in front of both the Bose and any other unit?

This is a better sound analyzer. It's called the blue hair scrutinizer.
You place an old lady in front of your speaker while playing music at mid volume. Try it with your speaker!

Mitch,

Thank you for sharing your information packed seminar and it was good to see you again too! I passed along some of your content that night at dinner and it is being implemented.

I think Ben might get the last laugh though. :sqeek:

I enjoyed your presentation and meeting you. Thanks for sharing, Mitch.

Ben,

I know you won't share the results of your test but I am sure the curiosity is burning in a lot of people right now! LOL
