Hey, I got another idea! This is pertaining to the fundraiser/kinda bad feelingness idea:

I shall invest a large sum of money in Buddha Bar music (as that pertains to the theme of the event)!

Talking about their salaries
Clerk 1 - I make $11 an hour
Clerk 2 - I make $9 an hpur
Mgr1- I make $60000 a year
Mgr2- I make $45000 a year
Accountant- Well, after factoring in the 4 years of Business School which was technically the Prep Time I needed to do my Accounting Job, And the Ludicrous amounts of Coffee needed to pass the Board, and all the travel expenses needed to go the review classes, and the daily cost of gas so I can make it to work, My salary is Really $7.9675833355545 per hour.

If this was how he looked a t how he was to be paid, 4 years of school + dorms + books+ lodging = $ 180000, Do we REALLY tell a prospective employer that you are basing your salary requirements based on tghis figure that you spent as YOUR PREP TIME TO BECOME AN ACCOUNTANT? No , the job is $60000 per year. However you look at it, that is the pay

I was charging $550 twenty five years ago!
I am sad to say that today I only get $1100 to $1500 per event, but that's simply because there are so many guys working for slave wages out there.

One poster said "where else can you make $350 for a day's work. First of all, you are not making $350 for the day. You still have to pay for transportation, insurance, equipment, music, clothing, advertising, phone - electric-internet connectivity fees, etc. The average wage today is between $50,000 and $125,000 a year. It takes me at least 4 days of hard work to put a show together--including client meetings, music compilation and acquisition, travel and set-up time for the event etc. If I did that for $350, my gross before all of my many expenses would be $87.50 a day, and I haven't purchased any gear or gas yet!!
I do an average of 125 shows a year. And let me tell you, I earn every penny of my money! And i am by no means at the top of the income bracket at my rates.

C'mon guys, start thinking like businessmen.

I make money charge way less than you and am not a hobbyist - if you have a copy of DJ Times June 2000 read all about it....

I keep saying have a good time and make money along the way take vacations, have fun, keep fit but don't harp on about worth for you are wasting your breath - you make your money and we'll make ours

We are still looking for a DJ, however, we have found that other's have lower prices. Are you willing to come down from $500? The lowest we've received so far is $400. If so, we would like to set up a time to meet with you in person.

Because it is not in MY best interest, I am not even replying to this (Wayne must be the other DJ that she carbon copied this message to--doesn't really make me feel special, ya know?). Who knows, though? Maybe if she didn't put that apostrophe on "other's"...

But, gosh darn it, I am still really proud of my $350 event!

Hmm...I'm not sure that I would reply to that either. I don't mind a mass email for an initial quote, but if they're going to try to work on me to drop my price, they should address the email just to me. I don't bother with getting into price wars anyway. (Besides, I'm probably the only DJ in town who quotes an estimated cost.)

And to answer your question 4 events at $350 = $1400 will turn around more money than your one at $1200.

Except, you had to work more and the cost to drive to four jobs instead of one. There is more wear and tear on you and your gear.

I thought that the whole point was to DJ events and have fun. :sqerr: I think that 4 events are better than 1, but only if you're trying to run a business that is fun and not solely for monetary profit. :sqcool:

I personally did 5 events over thurs, friday sat and sunday and had a damn good time doing it ;)
 
Listen, you guys. You must stop all of this charity work and think like business people; therefore, instead of wasting your time arguing with people who do not know how to make a proper living on chat boards, you should be focussing on making money with your business. If you happen to have free time on your hands, you should then look into investing your bucks.

But I bought the gear to work not sit in my basement taking up space!

Again "doing" 4 jobs at a lower price is going to bring in more money than a job you may get at $1200!
 
Hey Steve,

One of my DJ buddies in Sacramento calls it "Getting B-------ized" (insert name of local DJ).

Or you could call it "Getting Ferrelized", or whatever other GWYW guru you subscribe to.

Fact is:

There is a LOT of fallout in the industry right now!

There are many "High Priced" shops who are closing up, however I can also cite quite a few lowballers who are gone too (and I have their disconnected phone numbers to prove it).

I like being in the middle, not too low and not too high.

Too low doesn't pay your phone bill! LOL
