Hey all,
I just got the new Shinedown cd, "The Sound of Madness" which I think is really a good effort. I am a SD fan, from their first cd (Leave a Whisper, which is a modern classic) and multiple shows (they opened up for Van Halen on the Hagar reunion tour, and honestly made VH sound pretty old and slow). The band has changed a bit, with only the original singer and drummer on this cd. They have added a new guitarist, bassist, and key/rhythm guitarist, which sounds great to me. I really like piano, keys, and synth in rock, and this addition gives a lot more depth and personality to the tracks. Take a listen, as the disc has a lot of good ballads, rockers, and inbetweeners. Not something that we will play very often, but you never know....check it out!

Yes, I had the same reaction. I had listened to their first cd before that tour (I saw VH in Sacramento and Oakland) and really got into it. Leave a Whisper is a great cd, from beginning to end....which is extremely rare these days, and especially in rock.

Brent Smith has an excellent rock voice, and stage presence...he will go on, even if the band breaks up.

Shinedown's new cd "Sound of Madness" is pretty good, with good rockers and ballads. Just saw them, with Red, and Jet Black Stare, down in Reno on Monday night. Great show, louder than hell, in a small venue (The New Oasis) with only about 400 people showing up.....a buddy of mine from Reno went with (Jake), as my other friend broke his leg last Friday, and is still in the hospital!

Awesome Jeff I like the harder edged stuff but their instrumentals in those ballads are nothing less than exceptional. I will be getting this album. thanks for the heads up. Its very apparent we have much the same tasted for our personal collections.

Yes, I like Shinedown's rockin songs, primarily from the first cd "Leave a Whisper" but the ballads are definitely well done. I met the drummer (Barry) prior to the concert, and talked to him a good ten minutes or so....asked him about touring with Van Halen, and he said there was a lot of tension between the Halen brothers and Mike and Sam. He said that they were all great individuals, and treated them great, but definitely on the outs on the Hagar reunion tour. Barry also mentioned that their (Shinedown) new lineup was much more healthy than the past, and all great musicians. Their new lead guitarist was in Silvertide (Nick Perri) and definitely could play....great show.

Yep Jon, I believe we have a lot of the same tastes, in personal music. How about Black Label Society?!?!
 
All I know is Zack's daddy bought his way into that band. Just ask local Memphis musicians about him. Huge ego with little talent to back it up. He tried so hard to be the next SRV around here. He finally learned he just ain't that good. He now makes up for his lack of talent with pure volume and power chords.
 
whatever Wes I have some recordings of his that must have been tempo changed as I cant figure how one man could do what he does.
