It's doing well. Sometimes it bothers me. The surgeries went very well, yet I have a bit of a time walking occasionally.
A newbie may have a need to do an event for $300. They are looking to build their brand. A lot people may not know who they are and they are looking to get more bookings. You have to start somewhere. Nobody starts at the top. Michael Jordan didn't start at the top. It's about gaining experience and hopefully you will get more bookings paying more money as you keep at it.
Obviously there are those on here who wouldn't do an event for that price because they have plenty of potential clients who will be glad to pay the price said DJ wants without hesitation.
It's all about proving what you're worth. There are those who are only worth $300 or less and I'm not just talking about a newbie.

I called a guy about mowing my lawn.
He said he doesn't go out the door for less than $700
I told him my lawn was a square patch 10 yds x 20 yds
He said he doesn't go out the door for less than $700.
He also described the top level equipment he owns, and how invested he is in quality equipment, years of experience.
I told him he can use my new lawn mower that's sharp and cuts a 36" path and has a full tank of gas.
He said he doesn't go out the door for less than $700, and that he's a professional.
My grandson cut the lawn yesterday and I paid him $150 for the 30 minutes it took him to cut the grass and empty the bag.
The guy I called has a 30 minute YouTube Video complaining that work is down and people don't see his "value."

I mow my back yard myself, and it takes me about 10 minutes. My lawn guy has a big riding mower that won’t go through the gate in my back yard, but I prefer to mow it myself anyway. My yard guy mows the rest of my property for $50. He pulls a trailer containing his riding mower and other equipment, with his pickup truck. He parks out front, puts his ramp down, backs the mower off, and proceeds to mow the yard. It takes him 20 minutes total, including the weed-eating, and leaf-blowing.
I’m essentially paying him $150 Per hour, which is pretty good pay IMHO.

I actually did this, this week, I had a bride contact me a about a real simple wedding event just a 4 hour reception minimal formalities, no extravagant lighting, Early 20’s couple with no help from family. She didn’t want to pay more than $700 for a DJ for an August wedding, we talked about how frustrated she was with all of the DJ’s quoting $1500 or more for her extremely simple event. I explained in reality that’s the going rate in our area and that if they took her event it’s not that they are giving up the $700 it’s that they are loosing out on the other $800 or more they could make at a different booking. She thought about it for a while as we talked more about them having to make all of the food themselves with help from a few friends, it will be BYOB for alcohol as they don’t have the funds to purchase. Her fiancé walked in and joined us at the meeting and she filled him in on what we were discussing. They asked if I’d be willing to do the event for $1500. I agreed because it a short simple event 5 miles from my house. They gave me a $200 deposit and we worked out a payment plan to make it easier than having to come up with larger chunks of money all at once
So you sweet talked them into going $800 over their $700 budget for an event they can't even afford a caterer for?
What happened to being able to provide the same level of dedication, high end level of service and attention to detail for $600 that would would bring to the table for $2,500? Here they were offering $700? What was the problem?
If it was an extremely simple event, then why do they need to spend $1,500 on a DJ for it? You make plenty of money with all your other income sources so why did you need $1,500 in order to be their DJ vs the $700 if their event was 5 miles away and extremely simple?
Because that’s what my time is worth to me, they were free to hire anyone they wanted. What happened is a salesman who has an excellent product made them see the value in stretching their budget to achieve the outcome they desired, getting hired is way more about being a great salesperson than it is about anything else
