So you sweet talked them into going $800 over their $700 budget for an event they can't even afford a caterer for?

What happened to being able to provide the same level of dedication, high end level of service and attention to detail for $600 that would would bring to the table for $2,500? Here they were offering $700? What was the problem?

If it was an extremely simple event, then why do they need to spend $1,500 on a DJ for it? You make plenty of money with all your other income sources so why did you need $1,500 in order to be their DJ vs the $700 if their event was 5 miles away and extremely simple?
As much as me and Tunes4046 bump heads I'm on his side this time. Nothing wrong with him being able to get the couple to see that booking him for their wedding is worth paying $1,500. What does him having all those other businesses making money have to do with him being the DJ at their wedding? Evidently they figured out a way to get the extra $800 to get him to do their wedding. That's impressive!

I would love for Tunes4046 to make a gig log after this wedding and that's not just so he can show off. Just to tell how the wedding went.

I will not do gig logs at people’s private events, the key word is private not posted all over the internet

its 2026... you might not be... but every other vendor is.

if anything, you may actually be creating a different impression than that of respect. What do I mean... So there are actually a number of brides posting on tiktok and facebook groups showing their dissapointment that a vendor didn't post their event. It makes them feel like their event wasn't good enough or that their wedding vendor didn't care about their event and it was just another day at the office for them. Couples want to see their event shared and showcased nowdays. Not just from their guests, but their vendors. Primarily because they invested so much into their day that they enjoy seeing others appreciate all that went into it. Heck, many brides are literally creating a wedding based around it being instagrammable and creating viral tik tok moments w/ tshirt tosses, performers, and other viral aspects.

Many of my brides literally say "I can't wait to see your recap", or "make sure you tag me in everything you post so I can share it"

I don't think Tunes has ever posted a wedding video. He might be the only DJ in the 2020s booking high dollar weddings that doesn't have any videos of them. He doesn't need them though cuz he is just that good.

It’s all referral and being in very rural area. I rarely travel more than 45 miles to an event and somebody always knows somebody. Those that have never worked in a relatively low population rural area have no clue how referrals truly work, the three “bigger towns I work in have populations around 5,000 people. I’m literally the definition of a big fish in a small pond, between that and not wanting to DJ as much any longer, I have absolutely no need to advertise in any way shape or form any longer, I turn down far more gigs than I book

I'm actually not discrediting that in ANY way or implying a negative about how you conduct your business. I'm just simply pointing out how couples perceive online content via the vendors nowadays. I just receive a thank you text rom last nights wedding and the last line said verbatim "we can't wait to see the vide on instagram, especially the last song of the night". It's kinda just expected now.

Thats100% because you post you’re events publicly, you may be missing out on clients who want more privacy

Within a select sub-set of society, and not necessary a healthy one.

I essentially abandoned internet marketing by 2013, and that was after having success with it very early on. I've been much better off as a result. My clients are local, my reputation is local, and my work is local. My customer's aren't simply "linked" online - they actually live and work together and when they refer me, the other person typically already knows who I am, and the work I've done. That's not easily undone by viral hostility online, and it's hard to compete with when the alternative choices are "virtual."

The most rewarding aspect is that my sales are closed entirely on the basis of competency, skills, and scope of service. Image isn't in the driver's seat. I'm no longer selling to people's self-esteem or egos, or even my own.

I find it a better way to do business. It's also been a better way of living.

I know you’re mentioning me… but I tried to share how an entire community of brides feels that way. Yes there are some that want privacy, and 2 this year asked me not to showcase their wedding… however the overwhelming majority in 2026 appreciates their wedding being showcase worthy.

The overwhelming majority of your clients. There is a difference

I’m literally talking about the online community of thousand of brides who post on Tik tok and Facebook about their view point and perspective of their wedding being showcased. Not the 50-60 weddings I do.

Why do you think so many weddings are adding content creators with 24-48hr turnaround time

This is the the wedding market you cater to so of course it’s what you see. There are millions of well paying weddings that happen every year that aren’t for the “look at me” couples

I’m not quite understanding why you keep making this about me. This is about the wedding community as a whole and a brides expectations in 2026. The majority want their wedding worthy of being showcased and they want everyone to do. They’re making posts on TikTok questioning why they’re photographer didn’t share their wedding and getting upset as if it’s not good enough, or investing in not just a photographer and videographer, but a content creator who can create high quality social media reels and content the NEXT day for couples to have to post online.

I don’t know where this is describing what I cater to. This is just brides expressing themselves.

I know you’re phasing out, as many on this forum appear to be doing so as well, but if you’re starting out or trying to grow your following and your network, showcasing what you do, by sharing others events is a necessity.

Sadly, some of the most high end weddings are choosing vendors based on if they have a large enough following or not so that when the brides post their wedding, they’re showcasing vendors that are well known and make it appear like the couple spent a lot of money. Take the moral aspect out of things and what weddings are meant to be… this is the mindset of a bride nowadays.

I just wanted him to let us know how the wedding went that he got the couple to pay over double the price they wanted to pay in August. That's it. I wasn't asking for him to post any video at the wedding. In our contract I ask is it OK to take pictures and videos of their event to promote our business. If they say no then it's about respecting their choice.

I’m not marking this about you but you focus on the clientele you typically serve, the reality is there is an even higher end circle of potential clients who want complete privacy and discretion, think political families, professional athletes, television and movie stars, once you get in that circle it’s very very lucrative, I was in it for a few years. Definitely the most profitable and generous clientele I have ever dealt with

Why does anyone hire a publicist?
You can keep that "community." :) I've had my fill, even before it became internet centric.

I'm pretty sure many of those high net worth clients are posting their weddings... in fact many are getting paid for publications to post their weddings. I'm not talking about clients who require NDA's. Just as an example, for that higher end circle, a wedding took place at a venue I frequent that likely was a $500-750k wedding (400+ guests, multiple layers of entertainment, video wall and custom lighting productions (likely over 30 moving heads), extravagent decor, etc etc etc). The bride for the last 3 weeks has been posting content non stop from her wedding on instagram and tik tok.

With that said, these perceptions I'm sharing are from random tiktoks I come across from brides throughout the country, and facebook wedding forums throughout the northeast. And yes, there are some that do perceive that a wedding should be a more intimate and private experience. However, if we're talking trendlines, at least from the typical 25-33yr old couple, they're trying to create weddings that are "instagram worthy".

You keep saying "you" as if these are my clinets. Most in fact would likely not qualify as being my client. These are just every day brides sharing their opinions online about vendors showcasing their wedding or creating a wedding that's worthy of being showcased. Has nothing to do with my clients.
