Doing a 50th Anniversary tomorrow night. The daughter in law is the client. They purchased my large package with full light show. Just got a last minute call... the mother in law has sensitive eyes from a recent surgery and doesnt want any "flashing lights"...however the client still wants a substantial lightshow of some sort...

My immediate thought is to eliminate the wash fx ... keep the moving heads (dimmed around 50%) and uplight the facade and scrim a set of totems with the uplights inside ...should diffuse the light a bit... the moving heads may end up flashing her so i gave the client the go ahead to just give me a signal and i can cut the moving heads....easy peezy with the mydmxgo.

I fully sympathize with light sensitivity and am determined to give both the client and the guest of honor exactly what they want... fingers crossed

I think you just found a no win situation

I would scrap the Wash FX or if you really like what they do, put heavy diffusion on them, and you can pretty much stare at them. This is what I do.

Go to your local Photot store and test/buy the strength you need. I would go pretty heavy so that it cuts 3 stops of light out while making it appear MUCH softer to the eye when looked at.

You dim them anyway, so losing 3 stops of lights is fine.

i think they would definitely be the most pronounced "flashing lights" in the room...diffused or not...so i agree with scrapping them on this occasion...

hopefully the scrims on the truss totems are enough diffusion...and as Taso said.. a nice smooth fade will take away the abrupt "flash" feeling of the color change

Or run the Wash FX from the myDMX Go strictly on manual and use a subdued color to light the dance floor .. maybe changing it from time to time.

this venue has exposed metal rafters that are light in color...i was tempted to just shoot them up and light the ceiling...but im probably just going to eliminate them... funny enough this venue has windows all around...starts at 5 and ends at 9...so its only even going to be dark the last half hour or so...

You totally can run them to their full extent, and in fact, once you see how good the diffuson looks, you will probably run it like that at more gigs.

Even if you run them with a slow fade, it's the harshness from the lenses on each led bank when you look at them, which is why dimming them helps. It's just not that great of a design so putting diffusion does wonders.

When I have a ceiling, I take off the diffusion and bounce them off a ceiling, but you have to have a wide whiteish ceiling for it to work at intended.

Some say ... Y'er not a real dj unless you do mow your grass in your downtime. ;)
I prefer "scratching" in my downtime ... left cheek, then right ...
