I didn't put her down. I put down the father that actually did the event and complaining about what happened at the event. What was he expecting to happen at a wedding where they only want to spend $150 for a DJ? He's been doing this long enough to know not to expect a class act when it came to that wedding. I certainly would have looked for it to go the way it went if I were doing it.
I thinks this post contradicts itself. Are you saying people that charge $1000+ are good djs or not?

Can I make a prediction? This will be another major problem. There will be Ghetto Boys there, or your partner's Girlfriend will pull some drama or you won't get paid, or you'll have an issue with a bar owner or something before the night is over

You absolutely 100% did put her down - her and her father. Her father did the event because his daughter booked it .. and then could not make it. He covered for her.
From a business aspect, you have no idea how much the client wanted to spend. You have no idea how long he has been doing it, etc. The only thing that you know is that this is the daughters first booking. Again, for her first event, she would have made more than you do.

He tried with no success which is what I would expect to happen with someone only willing spend $150 for a DJ to do their wedding. I wouldn't look for this couple to be high class. Nothing wrong with her booking her first gig and getting paid $150. That's good for the first one.
Now how do you know what I could have booked that wedding for? Then he goes on to say they tried to not pay the whole $150. Was there a signed contract? I wouldn't expect the daughter to have a contract for them to sign being that this is her first gig. I would think the father would let her use his contract till she can get her own. Again nothing wrong with her booking her first gig for $150. You got to start somewhere. Just that for the money they want to pay I wouldn't expect anything less than what happened at that wedding.
I haven't seen lately any ads on Craigslist where someone is looking to book a DJ when I do go on their. I used to see ads where the bride was looking for a DJ to come do their wedding for say $250-300 and the DJ could be just starting out. That's just a nice way of saying we want a cheap DJ to do our wedding and we don't expect a seasoned professional to come and do our wedding for that low a price.
This has everything to do with it. You don't know how or why they came to the price that they did. You have no idea how much money the couple had. She has very little experience and this is her first booking. Even at her price of $150, she still would have made more than you do. How much did you charge on your FIRST booking?

We've seen your stories. Even if you were able to book it for $400, by the time you got done paying everyone involved, you would have made less than $150.

I was taking a guess as to how many people this place can hold. Just know that the place is very small. I'm going to show up and do my job. That's all I know to do. I was thinking before I saw the place that maybe I could play some music for a couple of hours after 9 pm and make that the after party. I can't see anywhere for people to dance.
Mix, Do exactly That; Show up with one good 10inch , a small mixer & a good microphone. Take the $150.00 and be happy.

i would use a 10 inch powered speaker and a wireless mic, just use the mixer on the back of the speaker, mix will need he partner for this, it's got nothing to do with old school so he won't be able to facilitate it with out help
You're wrong onion breath. I'm doing this myself. One interesting thing I thought about. It got mentioned that we don't know how much this couple had to spend for a DJ to do their wedding. That's true. I was thinking of what we do when we go into a store looking to buy something. We can have plenty of money to spend on an item. If we feel it's not worth it we won't buy it. Then at times it also depends on how much money we will be left with after buying that item. If it's going to leave me broke or near broke I might not buy it. Sometimes it depends on bad I really want that item that I don't care if it leaves me broke. I just have to have it. That's called impulse buying. Sometimes it's better to take a deep breath and decide if it's something you really need or you just want it.

My Computer that I bought from a friend who fixes things broke again. Are you legitimately and legally buying / acquiring all of the music on your drive? If by legal you mean downloading it from a friend, then yes. Are you going outside of your area and looking for events that are better than the ones in your area (which don't pay or are in bars)?
