I needed another mic for Friday's gig. I'm doing my best friends wife 50th birthday party this coming Friday and there are some people who want to sing. Possibly I guess one of the people will be her husband. So she wanted to know if I had another mic. The cordless mic I have needs to be fixed. She said she didn't want me to buy another mic. That one will just do. So I decided to go to GC and see what they had for mics on sale.

I picked up a AKG D 8000 M for $19.99 and the 20 foot mic cable from Live Wire for $15.99. Then there was the $5.00 warranty for the mic. So I got all of that for less then $45.00. Not too bad a deal. I know some will say that the mic isn't all that great but for $20.00 what the hell. Why not take a chance? The sell is over on Monday I know that. Just passing this along if anyone is interested.

I'm sure it's fine for the purpose .. I wouldn't have bothered with the warranty though, not on a $20 mic. You do realize that is the greatest profit generators for businesses?

GC just tuned a loss leader into a $5 profit.

Why is it OK for you all to take jabs at Mix for what he buys and does, calling him names etc yet I make a simple post yesterday asking the OP a few questions, made and observation, told him his project looked good and showed some pics of what I use as an alternative and you all twist my post out of perspective?

No jab at Mix .. just an observation that extended warranties are rarely a good buy.

And as to your comments, instead of saying "Nice Job" .. you said what was wrong with it, then you said .. other than that looks good .. then compared it to "your" setup which you preferred better.

The OP did not request alternatives .. just showing some fancy woodworking skills to those of us that appreciated it.

How is making a true & honest observation calling some one names or a jab??

Yes Steve, your right. ( Rarely a good buy).
A little thin skinned Cunta??

Did he ask you for approval?

That's the problem, Your the only person on this forum that has to have everything your why. Just helping out people that my be willing to listen & learn and not know it all!
How can someone that's been in this industry for so many years buy a $20.00 mic and then post that information as a great buy???

Helping him out? How? By ridiculing him and calling him every name in the book. It is Mix's money to do with it as he pleases. It is none of your damn business if he decides to throw it down the drain. He did not come on asking for advice or recommendations!

First off: Canute, leave the moderating to the moderators.

Secondly, I recall a recent thread (like a couple days ago) where a guy posted his setup and didn't appear to be looking for suggestions you chided him about his speakers being too close. http://ourdjtalk.com/threads/1st-lighting-set-up-what-should-i-get-1st.42091/#post-525569 . Weren't you doing the same thing -- offering advice where it wasn't asked for? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Thirdly: This is an open forum, you post about something it's open for discussion just like the dude's speakers for you in the linked thread above. By posting to a public forum you made it someone else's 'damn business'.

I asked him if he liked wearing his speakers like Headphones, he answered and I left it like that. When people post setups and stuff on the site they are either looking for feedback or a stamp of approval i.e. a Pat on The Back.

I Didn't have a problem with it - but you're telling other people not to offer unsolicited advice when you do so. How exactly does that work?

I was the one being told that. Take a Look at Nick's Summer Project Thread.

I bought the Canon T3i and bought the warranty. Good thing I did because I needed it to be fixed and it was covered. It didn't cost me a thing other then the gas to bring it there and pick it up. It was only $5.00 and the mic really cost $55.00. So if I never use the warranty I'm out of $5.00. Big deal. The mic worked pretty good as I used it this weekend.

Warranties are an ok value if the device is highly mechanical or if repairs are expensive. Mics don't normally fall into either category.

If it gives you peace of mind .. that's fine .. just pointing out they are usually a good deal for the seller.

I got mine for $20.00. So the deal I got is better. Musicians friend and GC are one and the same I was told.

Yes .. Guitar Center purchased Musician's Friend in the late 90s.

I'll keep it simple. I normally don't take the extended warranty because most want you to pay a lot. I took out the one for the camera because that item cost me a lot. Best camera and most expensive camera I've ever owned. I took out this warranty because it was only $5.00. I mean for $5.00 I probably would find something else that isn't all that important to spend it on.
