Hey Bob, Houston doesn't do weddings either...oh and most of us who have offered our two cents do...and boom goes the dynamite
Oh and please see Steve's post on page 6 section 4 paragraph 8 LOL. It PERFECTLY sums up what Houston and Bob are failing to grasp. LOOK BELOW

I wold be very interested to hear Bob and Houston's response to what Steve says here
There is no objective .. no magic .. no "elusive" skills .. we're talking about a DJ managing the flow of an event, and a few of you keep chiming in with the "if it ain't in the contract, it ain't my job" and the "professionals do it better" puffery that doesn't really answer or advance anything.
No one has said they wanted to do all the things that have been mentioned. And yes, I would believe that everyone agrees it should be hammered out ahead of time. But sometimes it doesn't actually go the way it was planned. Sorry, but I have not had that experience. This does not rise to the level of a DJ trying to take over a wedding as you seem to have grasped on to .. it's merely doing what needs to be done so things can come to a decent close. Remember you said that is the job of the DJ? So isn't that called taking over? I don't see how it's professional to just stand there when things go wrong .. nor do I see how it would be to stand there and keep making announcements until something happens. Has it ever crossed your mind that there may be people in place who are paid a Professional Fee to care care of problems that may occur?
^^^^^^^^^^^^Houston your thoughts kind sir?
Some responses above in
Red.
What part of "it does not apply to me" don't you understand?
What part of "I have not had the experience of a Planner or Coordinator no showing at one of my Events" don't you understand?
What part of "there are many Events being staged every day in this country with Hired Professionals whose job it is to do just what is in their contract" don't you understand?
In other words that scenario does not usually apply to me. When it does, I get compensated for it, plain and simple.
There are also people who are adding flame to this fire when they don't even have a dog in the fight. Just so that you comprehend what I mean, let me break that down for you. Some of those folks who interject themselves in every debate such as this one, have never posted a Gig Report with Photos, you never see them posting any real life experiences of DJing. Could it be possible that they come on here pretending to be DJs when in effect they are nothing more than Wannabes? Oh wait, that is another one of those trigger words that sends some into a frenzy, eh! How about trolling? They visit every thread looking for ways to start arguments and challenge everything others have to say.
Because something does not occur in your experiences or area does not mean it does not happen elsewhere. Maybe in your area when people come to attend a Wedding they may Self Park their Cars. What if I told you that at many of the Weddings I do every Guest gets their vehicle Valet Parked.
You must remember that in the Wide Scope of things pertaining to Entertainment, Weddings and Wedding DJs (Those who only do Weddings) are but a fraction of what takes place out there.
Lastly, take a look at the "heated debates" It is always the same couple of people who either start the crap or contribute to it when they are not even part of the issue.

Do you have to hire someone to wipe your butt?
Why, would you like the job? You seem to want to do everything else! Let me warn you, it is a shi**y pay off. Seems your advice (very often) involves hiring someone else.
My advice that involves hiring someone else as it pertains to DJing is because I believe in living and let live. If you worked in a Union Shop and tried to do other peoples jobs just to make yourself look good you may not live to enjoy the glory.
