Wes, these clubs (Without installed sound), where the DJs/promoters bring in their own equipment, use concert style systems. I am telling you that a pair of JBL SRX 728s barely cut the mustard for 400 people. In the same Club in question, Guys come in there with 4 Cerwin Vegas ABs and its just adequate for the crowd.

Hell I use a minimum of 2 JBL scoops as Bass for Karaoke.

That's about equal to a single LS800P/LS801P ..

Wes, not sure if you've ever been in the Houston clubs or not but I can see Canute's point. Those Texans always go overboard and having the biggest-arse places you ever thought about seeing. If you don't have 3 MILES under roof it's considered a corner pub and in those places you gotta have a whole bank of 2X18s to even have a shot at rattling the windows.

The aspect I like about the Yorkville is that it is Horn Loaded front facing, which explains the "Boominess". This is how I like my Bass to sound. My Scoops are 15" each but because of the overall design of the speaker system I get Punch as well as Boom.

This Club http://midnightrodeokaty.com/ is about 15,000 sq. ft. and has 8 CV ABs but the way they have them positioned has taken away the impact they could really give. The Dance Floor is like a Race Track, oval, about 6 people shoulder to shoulder wide and about 200ft end to end. They have the CVs each on the outside of the track interspersed facing the inside (There is a Bar and seating in the center of the track/dancefloor). There is all kinds of crosstalk and comb filtering going on. This is why, System design, processing and placement is so important to get the maximum possible clean and powerful sound one can get. It can be greatly diminished when any or all of the elements are compromised.

I agree w/ Rick. Take a look at Gilley's Club. It is big.

The Original Gilleys (about 40 minutes from me) was demolished in 2006. The largest one is now located in Dallas with about 90,000 sq ft of event space. Check with Theo "The Ologee" he might be able to tell you what they use in there. He lives up that way, 4 hours north of Houston.

I also like horn loaded subs. My Yorkville Unity subs are smooth as glass and go decently low (though not as low as some of the other Yorkville subs). They also look pretty sweet IMO .. Just wish they weren't so bulky:

So, she is getting (6) 2x18's and (2) 2x15 & a 2" tops... Trussing, 575 movers, wash lighting, a Source 4 w/ gobo
Should be absolutly slamming in there... and get this. She is EXCITED beyond belief!! lol

most weddings I do are around 300 guests, however its pretty rare to have any more than half actually dancing most want to socialize with friends and relatives. that sound system at volume would not be appropriate for my typical wedding where there is at most a 30x30 dance floor, even though the venue itself is much bigger

A Powerful system at low volume will sound more rich and full bodied than a barely adequate system at high volumes. It is better to have the firepower and not need it than to need it and not have it! I hate DJ sounding systems that sound like blaring music coming through tin foil!

the problem is most brides don't want to pay for the extra gear and staff required to set and strike it in a decent amount of time, it would probably be a 500 to 750 upcharge on my rate schedule

For those who use tops as mains in full range, the only extra gear is a sub (Small event (under 50 people) or pair of subs which to me is standard.

With Brian (Precisionpower) more is better. If he went Golfing he would not use a Golf Cart, instead he will bring a Dodge Ram 4x4 to the game!

No... that was not a typo. Used 2 of them, They are chinese knock offs from e-bay, But have been working quite well except the fan is rather loud.. But i have enough rig for the gig so i just drown it out... lol

Also used (4) Led pars (3 watt LED'S) for wash on the truss.. worked very well also.

Our very own Hank made the artwork files for my Gobo i needed and knocked it out of the park once again.
Sooo many compliments on that it wasnt even funny. Venue Asked for cards as soon as i had it aimed..
