I don't own one but based on the specs and design I would venture to say that you won't be disappointed. As tunes said, expect it to be boomy. Good for Hip Hop style Music.

I have the powered version one is way louder that two of my QSC HPR181i's the 4 I have couple will make your stomach turn at high volume ;)

He's not exaggerating. I use to own the HPR181i's and compared it to the Yorkville. My HPR sounded pitifully anemic in comparison to the LS800P. I will say with both running flat (no EQ), the sound quality of the HPR was a lot better in my opinion. The York was annoyingly BoOMY! EQ'ing it is a must.

I've used them on many occasions and they are better than the specs say but like the others say they need processing and they need an animal of an amp. If I was going to buy one I would go powered as the amp is perfectly matched to the speaker

Thanks all. I just bought a Crown XTI 4002 to drive it with. This amp will do 2400 watts into 8 ohms bridged. I only plan to use 1 of these subs at a time. I have some Yorkville tops with 2" drivers that I plan to use with this sub.

By the way as I sit here reading the operation manual that can with the crown amp. I see a small wire that came in the envelope with the manual. Anyone know what this is for?

DJ Wes;516738 I hardly ever use two as it's just too much bass. Really said:
How can you say that? Not all Weddings are limited to small rooms. How about a Wedding with 400 people wanting to party down? Don't tell me that one of those subs would be sufficient for that size crowd and space. If you are going to make suggestions then give an example of square footage and or size of audience.
For example, if I am doing a 400 people Gig I would want something like 2 JBL SRX 728s or 4 LS808 for subs and 4 sets of tops if I am running Two Way.

Houston, you need to try these subs. I did a wedding for 800 people with one (yes one) of these and it was PLENTY! It was on 'cruise' and thumped all night long. No need to collapse peoples lungs.

As did I in a 10,000+ SqFt room

Wes, with all due respect, those people must have been seated listening to music. I do clubs here in Houston (Yeah I know the energy is different but it is still a close comparison when people are partying). I know of one particular club where we have about 400 people and 2 JBL SRX 728s (2 Double Subs = 4 x 18")are used. If we had more people we would need more firepower. If we were doing double that amount of people we would need 4 SRX 728s. Are you trying to tell me that one of your subs 18" is equal to or superior than 4 JBL SRX728s? I just don't buy it!

You are reminding me of a chap that was doing a Karaoke Show at a Bar here in Houston that has a capacity of 200 people who uses 2 QSC K 10s. He said that is all what was needed. I went and saw for myself. It was loud (Not in a good way) and distorted, no clarity. Yep you can hear them alright but it was way inadequate. It sounded like music being blasted out of tin foil!
Lets agree to disagree on this one.

Here's some pics from an event I did back in 2005. I used two LS800P's. Now this was not a dance per say, but the subs were hitting hard non the less. There were over 1000 kids at this event.
That was a seated performance, a big difference. Also, if you are providing music for just one area and not cover the whole audience then that too will make sense.

I use only (1) Yorkville LS801PB (1500 watts) and can't recall ever needing more sub thump...I do military formal events where there are 400-500 in attendance in a rectangular room. I don't bring to weddings because most are between 100-175 guests. I either use the Yorkville NX750PB's or my RCF 12" Active speakers with (2) ART800 Active subs (15" @ 400 watts each), coupled in center of dj setup; 2-way w/mono sub hookup. Being they are a matched pair, the RCF subs and tops play well together.

Before I get misinterpreted. I am not arguing that the speaker is not awesome in its own right. My contention is that there is no way, for 800 people in an applicable venue that I can take that One Yorkville Sub, to replace 4 JBL SRX728. I just don't see it. I know what a pair of JBL SRX728 is capable of doing let alone 4. So for someone to say one of those Yorkvilles will match 4 JBL SRX 728s is ludicrous. Hearing the music is much different to feeling the music.

I agree. But I also think 4 JBL SRX728's is completely unnecessary unless you are doing a full blown concert for a major touring act. To play pre-recorded music for dancing? No way. It's overkill for anything under a few thousand people.

Wes, not sure if you've ever been in the Houston clubs or not but I can see Canute's point. Those Texans always go overboard and having the biggest-arse places you ever thought about seeing. If you don't have 3 MILES under roof it's considered a corner pub and in those places you gotta have a whole bank of 2X18s to even have a shot at rattling the windows.

Hell I use a minimum of 2 JBL scoops as Bass for Karaoke.
