The problem with this is that in a lot of cases the Client does not care so it is up to the Vendor to decide the next move. In a lot of cases the Vendors believe that what is written is legal so they do not complain. A private entity who provides only to their registered members and does not cater to the regular public may be exempt but a Venue that caters to everyone is in fact not treating everyone fairly. Again, I am sure that more than likely they have not ever been challenged about this so they continue doing it. I am going to ask someone who I know that is a Business and Corporate Attorney this question the next time I see him, maybe tomorrow evening. He should be at a Birthday Party I am doing tomorrow afternoon.
Lets face it, what if I wanted to rent the place wanted to have a DJ that is a Caribbean DJ who specializes in Reggae, Soca and Calypso Music. If the Venue cannot provide that kind of DJ why would I then have to pay extra to bring my own? What is I am not happy with the DJ they provided, what recourse would I have. I bet anything that those type of venues will dictate to you how you should dress! They shouldn't because they are not your employer and you are not their employee.

I think many times it's the fact that it will cost you money up front to challenge this .. and most importantly time. If you have it, fine, but there is still the possibility you may lose. It would appear that venues that operate this way have their legal processes down .. and have no issue sending a peon to the courts while you get all mucked up .. win or not.

Everything you said about Unions above is true and I agree but that is not what my conversation is about. For the many years I have been on this Forum I have not read or seen an issue of a DJ running into Union problems. You and Rick just went off on a tangent about the subject matter.
MY contention is with blacklisting someone who has NEVER played there,meaning that they are blacklisted because they are not on the Venue's preferred list! It has nothing to do with placement of speakers or loading in/out of gear.

Laugh all you want. Installing Artwork is very lucrative. Do you know what the pay is per hour on a retail Basis? $125.00-$150.00 per hour or per specified project (4 regular sized Framed Artwork). It takes me about 20 minutes to do a 4 piece project. and I still get the full price. I charge my Interior Designers $75.00 per hour. Why don't you go back to your Shyt Bucket and lose some of that shyt inside of you. Maybe then you won't be spouting off so much out of your mouth. Have a Nice day!

I don't believe ANYONE mentioned anything about not being able to play there because you're not on the preferred list - the conversation was about being blacklisted and not being able to play there. Who did you say was going off on tangents?

In your story (and as I've stated before), Alex is free and clear to challenge the venue if he has enough money, time, resources and energy to waste on fighting said venue. For all you know, this venue may have more of these resources than you do - and be more than willing to fight you.

In addition, I would like to add that we were discussing someone being blacklisted. We were not discussing preferred vendors. Can you say 'tangent'?

This is what I was referring to in my responses. Bill had never been to the place. I thought they were being unfair to him.
 
we can play music till 12.00 Midnight after that then we are fined

they dont fine for loud music because thats being unaustralian

oh during the week (here is a breakdown below)



Sundays to Thursdays till 10pm after 10pm no loud noise or $200 fine (Sundays you can get permission to go on till 12.00)

Friday and Saturday this is till 12.00 Midnight for noise as most parties happen then

so we dont worry if we know how its done
