My partner is looking to buy this for the business.

Mix...suggest you check out franchiserecordpool.com...Membership is about $20 a month. They have some old and new school music and videos.
At that price it should be a no brainer for you to show you have a legitimate source of music and video.

That's an awesome pool .. I may join that just to pick up the back catalog. My current one (IDJPool) doesn't go back more than the past year for most stuff.

I said nothing about things being a done deal. Just need to research things first before We can make a final decision. Right now I'm leaning towards a no for right now.

According to you - you have a show that you WILL be doing video at - that sounds like a done deal to me.

I vote we send Mix to North Korea, as our new top level diplomat and negotiator.

I totally have Faith, that he can resolve the nuclear issue, bring about world peas, and save the planet from invading aliens.

Thyat was the plan but I decided to easy does it. Let us slow down and breath first. We had some big ideas but didn't know those ideas were going to cost us a lot of money that we really don't have right now. So I just want to concentrate on a nice light show with the new truss I just bought.

Like I said I didn't know the stands for the TV's to go on would cost $800.00 each. Now that's a lot and not including the TV's plus the hardware to do it with. We have the laptop to get the job done so that's not an issue. We just thought the process was as simple as 123. I mentioned something to my partner that he didn't think of. What about cases to put the TV's in so they don't get damaged. He didn't think of that.

You'd be surprised at what is available there. Don't read into the media too much -- it's mostly a pile of BS propaganda...

When's the last time you saw a skinny N. Korean?

I'm TOTALLY with you about bringing the world peas - but what happens after they eat it all?

What about the cost of all the videos? That itself will cost more than equipment.

Not sure -- depends on if they use waterless cookware I guess...

Don't forget nor leave out the costs of the needed videos.

Her's what I decided to do. Slow down and look at what needs to be done that's most important first. Get the DJ chair first. Then get the parts to get my PC fixed. It's a mess. After that probably look to get 1 more light along with paying my cell phone bill and canceling a service on it to help me save some money on the bill.

Never mind doing any kind of video right now. Just impress the clients coming up with audio and a nice light show. The video right now is out of our league and no need to spend money we don't have to do something that's on our wish list.

Mix, this is where you bump heads with some of the people here. How on earth can you offer someone a product that you are now unable to deliver. If you book a show that will have video, then you better be delivering video - regardless of whether or not you didn't know the cost.

Also, I notice that you have been dancing around the cost of the video(s) - you have acknowledged the cost of hardware, but we have yet to hear anything about video. I hope that you do understand that it is illegal to play video / audio that you have not legally obtained.

We were just going to throw that in. We never told the client we were giving them video nor did they ask for it. My partner had this thought of doing this for that event on April 20th to look to draw in more clients that will spend some good money to book a DJ. That particular event is going to have some guest there that are making some good money in TV and other areas. So his thoughts was to do this at this event to attract some of those guest to book us. Nice ideal but just not in the cards right now for us. If I went to the association and did it through them just to show off we would be losing money big time.

As for the cost of the videos I don't know what that cost is. Like I said I just want to concentrate on having a nice light show for the next 2 events we're doing and wow them with us DJing the events and the light show. Keeping it simple for now and when we can then add the video package. Thanks for the beat down I was given on this thread to show me how big a mistake it would be to take on such a big project right now. I thought it would be simple to add video and I see that it's not as easy as I thought it would be.

Even though I know I shouldn't, I have to say something here.

We were just going to throw that in. We never told the client we were giving them video nor did they ask for it.

Why on earth would you just simply assume the client would want video? I can understand buying something new if the client asked for it and you can use it later (like we have done with a custom monogram service)....but to simply just think the client would want video without EVER bringing it up to them is one of the worst business practices I have ever heard! (and that is saying a lot from some of the other things I have seen on this board LOL)

Hey Mix,
Approximately how much money do you spend on New Music per month.
Where do you buy most of your music?

Repost from http://ourdjtalk.com/threads/40247-I-get-asked-this-question-quite-often-when-I-say-I-m-a-DJ/page3?

I'll answer the question best I can since it keeps getting asked. I originally was never going to become a computer DJ. I was happy using CD's. I'm glad I made the switch. Some of my music I got from a friend. He had me help him with a gig transporting his gear and instead of him giving me money I asked him to give me some music on my HD for payment. I've gotten music from I tunes and other such sights. My partner got some music from a site and I payed him for some of that music. He paid for it himself and he let me get some of it. So that's how I've gotten music over the years.

I was thinking of joining a music subscription service but haven't yet. I just like being able to get different styles of music from different places. I was told such sights will limit you and they don't give you everything.

Now with that said I need to talk about me for a moment. Many years ago I was supposed to get a job in a bar in Elizabeth, NJ. I never got to meet the owner or where the bar was at. What happened was a friend I used to work with was in this bar where a DJ was playing. Nobody was dancing. She finally gave the DJ one of my CD's I gave her for him to play and the crowd went nuts. The DJ even wanted that CD.

Mix - since that post on 12-20-2012, has anything changed?

Have you gotten rid of ALL of the illegally obtained media? Do you have a plan to replace any illegal media?

For any and all media, are you acquiring the media in a legal, proper manner - this includes audio and video? Is it yours and only yours?
