The Italians in my extended family call it "abeetz", and I wouldn't want to call them non-professional.

So that would be the only qualification to be a successful DJ? How much would a successful plumber have to make? Welder?....
 
If I was in those professions I would know the answer to your question.

Jeff that would be the major one that separates those that think they are professionals from those that know they are. I also think that at least maintaining that figure yearly or growing on that figure would be another very important factor in determining if you were truly a Professional DJ
 
But why $50,000? Why not $100,000 or $20,000.? They are all arbitrary numbers one doesn't make you any less or more professional than the other. Now if you are talking about what a full time DJ needs to make it becomes a little less arbitrary but is still based on needs.

A Doctor can make anywhere between $100,000 and $1,000,000 and I'm sure beyond. There are very few at either end but a big pile in the mddle. They all have PhDs is one more professional than the other or is it more based on ambition or need?

It all comes down to what each individual wants in life a number will never tell you if he's a professional. It's the impression one makes with other people (Clients) that determines if you're a professional (In every area out there). Just because one makes a ton of money does not mean professionalism as you can be a bastard with your workers, clients, people in general.

We had a case down here with a thoracic surgeon that tried to make a drive thru putting port-a-caths down here and he became reckless sometimes having an assistant do the surgery. Well it finally bit him in the ass and they made a huge mistake causing the death of a patient. The guy didn't show up when paged urgently when the patient was crashing. After the investigation he was fired, he lost his medical license and he lost the playboy life he had he's being sued and criminal charges have been brought up. He was not a professional.

I'm not a fan of lawyers as much as the next guy but you have to admit they've got a whole lot of education behind them and a whole lot of continuing education throughout their careers.

I'm not talking about what a DJ needs but what a DJ should realistically be doing to come up with that $50,000 figure. Of course if you think a DJ on his third paid event is a professional we are really wasting our time since we will never come to a understanding.
 
An arbitrary number that you pulled out of your own rear end. Joaquin, your hubris amazes me.
 
It's a number that any true professional dj should be able to attain working regularly at his profession.

Now of course if you nibble away at the oppurtunities to attain this $50,000 number because you decide to do this part time then you should not really count yourself as a professional dj.

According to your own standards. Show us some documentation, studies, research, etc. that can support your "arbitrary" number. There are different levels of cost of living across this nation. 50k might be a lot in one area and barely scraping by in another. Life is not all black and white and just because an anonymous person states something in a forum doesn't make it the gospel.

Joaquin, you like to poke and push peoples' buttons yet hide behind your pathetic "alter-ego." Isn't it time for you to grow up and quit hiding behind your online "persona?"
 
Why is it that DJs will use the term Cheap, Bottom Feeders, Craigslist DJs to refer to cheap DJs but no one will come up with a money figure to indicate a sign of success as a professional DJ?
