I just came back from GC where I did a head-to-head of the Chauvet qspots vs the ADJ vizi fixtures. While I like the Qspot260 it just doesn't seem to compare against the gobo displays of the vizi units. I know the 5R is brighter than the 150 but it's a lot bigger unit, almost 3X the price and it really didn't seem to be that much brighter. I could see a 4-head setup of the 150s that would really look impressive. Thoughts?
 
whats the results of your EV experiment then I will give my thoughts. Oh and do you plan to use a global crank and T for these?

I'm still waiting for my power amps back from EV. Kinda getting nervous about this weekend.

As for the heads, probably put them on Ts and a crank stand. I'm thinking about going to vertical truss for the heads and ditch the rest of my lights. It's such a clean, elegant look.
 
so in hopes of gaining what you are after using the EV outdoors etc any further options or fixes given via conversations with EV? Recommendations or tips? IF you are going to only use the movers I would use some LED wash or uplighting to enhance the trussing to make more elegant in presentation.

Not quite sure I understand that first sentence but if you're asking "Did Michael give any other tips" he did suggest that I should not run those boxes past 12 o'clock. I normally run them at about 2p and notice they start to clip at 3p. In case you're going back to the operator error shtick, keep in mind they died just prior to the reception with light jazz being played at low volume.

FWIW, my new Carvins are schedule to arrive tomorrow. The EVs have probably seen their last outdoor gig........although I'd really like to have them on standby this weekend. I have Friday under a tent and Sunday under a pavillion. Just had a Saturday gig offered but when they said "houseboat" I passed.
 
I would bet it was some internal issue with the batch or your configuration amps and would run them immediately to alleviate any doubt. If what you claim was the case running at minimum for light background even the hottest day with no vent or fan I have to say it was likely some other issue operator or equipment anomaly.
I wish I lived in your area as I would swoop up all that you pass on.

As for the EV, I'm actually a bit suspect or either a first-run design defect or (more likely) an intermittent connection on the LF, positive wire. That banana plug just fell off when I removed the amp. And as for the passed-on jobs, I'd farm them to you......:triwink:

It is apples and oranges between those two brands and made on the same street virtually. They are Chinas versions of products which used to be alot better much like the other sound and lighting items coming from there. It isnt European nor Japanese technologys finest these days. Whichever one appeals to all your needs the most would be the perfect choice.

I actually went in there to look at the Chauvet 150 but they didn't have one setup. Instead, I compared the 160, 260 and the vizi 150 and 5R. The Vizi gobos and patterns completely annihilated the Chauvets in my opinion, and I'm usually a fan of Chauvet. The vizi 150 is going to be a hard fixture to beat at that price point.
