Here's the Chauvet (medium lit living room, daytime)

I think Ben's right. You need to use film, not printed transparencies. The letter actually shows little black specks (can't really see it in the cellphone shot). For reference, here's a shot from my Irradiant 5w projector, shot in the dark in the basement.

Both of these are printed on transparency paper. The paper gives off a bit of diffusion.

BTW, the re-size feature doesn't do much on this unit. It does focus very easily. Also, the rotation is too fast, IMHO. I've got mine on the slowest setting and it's just too fast for my tastes.

I got mine last night and love it! I haven't tried homemade gobo's but the custom gobo looks great.

I created a fixture profile in Freestyler if you use that software for your lights. You can adjust the brightness and rotation speed via dmx.

I was worried the image would be tiny but the zoom works wonders for me. Sunday is the true test!

I think it looks better in a "still" mode. The gobos change shape when rotating and look weird. There is no difference in speed when using stand alone or DMX. The slowest speed using DMX is the same speed as stand alone.

Yes and it's with a transparency. I'm thinking to use film, like Ben is suggesting. Should make it even better.

What distance and how dark is the room? Is the focus on the gobo off or is that the picture?

that was about 10 feet away, the camera sucks in low light BUT around the edges of the gobo its not as focused as the center, as seen in the "K". I am going to take a picture of it at a better angle. I originally had it on the dancefloor and then moved it to the wall. in that picture the room is pretty dim but not at its darkest of the night.

That might not be the best picture but its still looks way better than a transparency! Notice I don't have a circle outline around my gobo! That's the only thing I do not like about the made at home look.

I had to use a permanent marker to color the back of the gobo black because it created an upside ghost image of the gobo. The stock gobos that come with the unit have black backs to avoid this problem. However if you use a color gel painting the back of the gobo isn't necessary. Other than that, love the gobo and the fixture.

I haven't but the specs say they both have 10w led's.

Only real difference is that the Chauvet unit has 2 dmx channels and the adj does not offer dmx control.

both unit can be found for around the same price!

Outdoor Tent Wedding w/gobo

I used the stock hearts gobo this weekend. The tent was large enough for 120 people and I would guess that the gobo was shot about 50 feet away. Even with the sun still out the light looked good, but it really looked great at night!

shanefrom302, the gobo on the tent looks good. Did you have the gobo light on all night long? Was it always rotating?

Thanks! I kept the light off until I opened the dance floor. It was "ok" with the sun out, but it looked a lot better as the sun went down so I decided to save it for the last 2 hours. I kept it static for the most part, but I did have it rotating for a while too! I mounted the light to my speaker stand so it was easy to reach the dips.

I'll upload a pic at the brightest point of the day so you can see the differences
