i am old school & a 60 year old dj. i have questions on speakers.
i am using a peavey cs800 amp , along with a peavey unpowered mixer, cd player & laptop/ & a set of peavey 1522hc tubs 500 watt (rms)(1 15 woofer, w/ mids &horn) with 8 ohms marked where i plug to 1/4 input. with no other speakers.
my question is: I am interested in buying a set of peavey pv-215 speakers & on the plate it is listed as 4 ohm with 700 watts power.
what will be the difference be when i plug into my amp with new 4 ohm & my old 8 ohm speakers?
will it burn anything?, will i have to use more power? will it be easier on my amp?
is there a switch on my amp i have to change? thanks appreciate the info.

on & off 20 years. with my equipment i have been lucky that i have never burned anything up. except one or 2 speakers. what about you

I won't get into a long dissertation about speaker and amplifier impedance, but the PV-215s would perform substantially better with a more capable amp.

I've owned many CS800s, still have three...I believe, and think they are great but they are only rated at 400W/ch in stereo, when driving a 4 ohm load. You will likely be driving the amp beyond its capacity on those speaks and the distortion will eventually and likely damage the speaks if not the amp as well.

If you are married to Peavey, not a bad choice, then you should upgrade to the CS-2000 or 3000

Good call Rox. It's also noteworthy that the measurements for the PV-215 are in Half Space per the Peavey spec, and it's not a particularly efficient box. I agree.. either get more power or get a more efficient set of speakers. I mean, for the price the PV-215 isn't a terrible speaker... It's one of the few dual 15s we sell for under $300.

thank you guys, i will move up to 2000watts min. also have you heard anything about the new gli-pro amps coming up, or have they been around a while? there is a model
xpa-5 3,000 watt 2 channel, what do you think? thanks for the info, nice to have pro,s who know there stuff.

For amps look somewhre other than GLI, look into Behringer if you need a good budget amp or even the QSC GX series...

Behring is the conjoined twin of GLI.

Don't go cheap on your amplifiers. To do so would be equivalent to putting a junk yard motor in a car you need to rely upon.

There are certainly lower priced amps that sill have are reliable and deserved positive reputation...and there are plenty that are unreliable and have a deserved negative reputation.
