Do yourself a favor. Do a search on here for Live-X or just look at recent threads in the Gear forum. This is the new speaker line from Electro Voice. I can pretty much guarantee that the Live - X will eat the Warfedale for dinner and will last much longer. Electro Voice is Pro Grade audio gear. I've never tried the Pro series, but based upon their offerings (and my experience), I would suspect they wouldn't attach their name to garbage.


I wouldn't trade my home Wharfs for anything money could buy -- they sound better than speakers costing 20 times the price ;) :)
 
Rick I agree on their home stuff their pro stuff not so much.

well heres the story gents. I was told that these are the poop and cant be beat. now the guy i talked to was trying to get me on the Titan active 12's
@ 458.00 a pop. After lookin around and makeing some more calls. I happen to get a hold of the Rep. he was telling me that those speakers are going for
around 458.00 ea. but dealer price is @ 299.00. so after looking on the web so more and finding them listed @ hollywooddj for less. I call to seethere lowest price and told them that the cost is going for 299.00 ea. well them they were ready to deal. got locked on them at 260.00 and thats for the SVP-15P. now as far as the Titan Active 12's goe. Thats a little money than what I was wanting to spend. and I would want them in a 15. as far as bottem end goes. UNBELIVEABLE. and very clean sounding. thats my .02 cents an Im stickin to it.

And the reason I say that is that DJ's - well many of them... just read this board - are as cheap as they come. And if they were any good, lots of DJs here would already own them, or at the least, would have listened to them and been able to give opinions.

Honestly, Wharfdale is not a respected name in the DJ business. Then again, neither is Bose to some folks.

But 2 things I can tell you, and most people here can tell you, is you usually get what you pay for.... and it is better to buy the right gear once than buy the wrong gear multiple times.

I don't know who this wedding is for, and I don't know what you are charging, but I am pretty sure that if they have any sense of audio, they might be a wee bit disappointed by your choice.

You asked for opinions, and this is my opinion. At least you answered your own question.
 
I have tested and handle them, slightly used set (still looked brand new) in store and that alone was enough to not buy them.

well I thank you all on your comments. But I would like to buy my up and coming gear right the 1st time. as for the wedding. its my cosin step daughter an im not charging a thing. I know what hellva nice guy I am.

SO!? as I stated in the begging of this post lol, I want to sound fairly decend
and make them all happy. So what would you suggest in reguards on Speakers.? prefer a 2 way 15. as Im lookin to run a Numark ICDMIX3 with them. I know nothing about DJ Gear. Im an Old Rock Show Lead Roadie that pointed and it was done. And did alot Pregiging Calls,Email, and a lot of driveing. Please post your suggestions. And I thank you all.

May I ask, so that I don't waste your time or mine? Based on what you said (See above in red), are you doing this as a hobby or business/to earn a serious income?
Being a Lead Roadie, I would think you would have some knowledge of good gear.

I don't know all that fits your price range, but I would call NLFX ( one of our site sponsors ) and see if they have any open box / demo speakers for sale... Ben and Kat will not steer you wrong.

I got to disagree with you there Papa unless it's the big 5 or 6 manufacturers most on the boards don't have experience or know of them in alot of cases.

I used to own a pair of SVP 15 Passives and as far as sound quality they are a pretty good speaker. The highs are crystal clear and the bass is tight. I found they lack a bit in midrange but working it a bit you can make a nice sound.

I did find they padded thier specs a bit because the pair I was running were no where near 126Db and I felt like I was pushing them way beyond the limit at 300 watts.

That being said if it was for a small room I would feel confident using them

Jeff, I know... but what I meant was if there was a good really low priced solution, by now, DJ's would know. You see people here and everywhere saying that they want a DJ setup to use for mobile events, and they have a budget of $800 - $1000. IMO, If Wharfdale was that solution, we would know... but again, IMO, there are no low priced "great" speakers.... and by that I mean under $600 a pair for active cabs. And I own a set of Berhringer 212's. I would not use those for 95% of my events, not even events I did for free.

That said, we all know you can get a COMPLETE setup for $500 if you want to go that route. Hell, I saw "pro" DJ's in AC buying $99 15" active speakers left and right. WTH????

well i did 16 years ago. I plan to do this (DJ) as a fulltime Gig in time.
And as with all things, it thats time and money. Time I got Money Im short on @ Present. Thats what i was trying to get across. as far as a starter System.
Im LQQKIN at the NUMARK ICDMIX3 and the Whafdale Speaker. as a starter system. I'd love to be able to go out an order a couple of nice upper end Crowns or QSC, an some kickin EV. but not at present. So Im lookin to spend around or a bit over a Grand. and I'll be doin that the 1st of March.

Thanks for the response. Many on this Forum will tell you that I don't mince words. I call it as I see it. The DJ Industry is a legitimate one which requires skilled folks with good gear. You are either going to be serious from the start of continue a path of having gear just to get by.

My advise is to save the money until you get the good stuff. It does not have to be top of the line or elaborate. If I were you I would rent the good stuff, charge adequately and save the profit until you have the gigs coming in to go out and "invest" in a good system.
