What is the deal with Musicians plugging into your PA?

Exactly - it's a dead-horse now, in large part due to yours truly, but you're right.

It's always good when we can agree to disagree, and sometimes it takes this long to come full circle and realize there might not have been that much disagreement to begin with. :tritongue:

And in addition I wasnt spreading the thought with a wide brush but more so in just this particular thread which was somewhat unusual and refreshing. Respectful and diverse angles on a topic is healthy and uncommon in many cases.:tricool: Ya Dig?

Let me paint more specifics of the actual picture. My Rock N Roller cart is stacked almost as tall as I am (6' even) with my gear, so that I can make it back to my work vehicle in one trip, at the conclusion of the ceremony on the beach. The top of this "pile" is a bag with Ultimate stands, which are not flat. This groomsman's acoustic guitar (planned for and properly mic'd on the beach) was not brought out in a case of any kind. I also was trying to encourage this guitar to NOT be brought to the reception, as I believed he might attempt to turn a dance party into a beach bonfire (or worse yet, some kind of Adam Sandler routine). I was hoping he (or someone else who wasn't loaded to the gills with gear to haul) would take said guitar to the man's hotel room, and leave it there. I wasn't about to try and balance a guitar on top of my cart.

As you have probably guessed, I politely declined.

The way I see it, this is completely different than the original post. I would have declined given this scenario as well.
 
Scott, it was a tangent. The plugging in part wasn't a problem, but I'm not going valet the guy's guitar, too.
 
On the issue of "carrying" someone else's musical instruments, the only issue for me is I am not responsible for it and I won't take responsibility for it.

The same reason I won't let guest "help" me with my gear!
 
Two years ago, I had a Xmas event that I played for a friend of mine who passes on events to me. At this gig, he told me two days prior to the event that there will be a band singing. I hate providing sound for musicians, it is just a no win cause for me. They always want the music higher, complain that they need more reverb, complain that the monitors need more volume, want 55 more mikes, need extra extensions and extra monitors. Complain, complain, complain. Word to the musicians, if you need all this, it is a good idea to BRING YOUR OWN STUFF!!!!!! Oh and BTW, if you had a better freakin' voice maybe you wouldn't need so many EFFECTs to hide your nasty voice!!!!!!!:triwink:

There's your problem. She believes she is overpaying you and has the right to add additional services at no extra charge. It seems the nice speech did nothing to change her perception. I would feel like I was caught between a rock and a hard place. If you don't do what she wants forget about using her for a reference. If you do what she wants it will cost you time and expense.

It's your call.

Well after I had cut the price of her ceremony in half, from $300 to $150 to get her to lock in her date. I ended up providing the additional equipment for an extra $175. It's funny becuase she started out complaining about paying $300 but ended up paying $325 when it was all said and done!! If she never complained about paying my regular rate and asked for the additional equipment I would have provided it without an additional cost.

They were absolutely fantastic! Every song they played was perfect and on time and they far exceeded my expectations. I was worried about getting a DJ becuase I thought it was something I could do myself, and I was picky about what I wanted--but they were so proessional and I'm so glad we got a DJ instead of trying to do it ourselves.

Nope wont allow anyone to PLUG in to my gear

I dont intend to do that with others

I supply my own (everything)
I never borrow from anyone
(table excluded as its part of the venue, and they always supply these for djs here)

as far as anyone plugging into me - no thanks
