What is the deal with Musicians plugging into your PA?

It's part of the future of DJing. I get these requests 1 out of every 3 gigs. Family member needs to patch in their keyboard, guitar, Etc. They need extra wireless mics, Dad wants to patch in a DVD player for the audio for their photo montage, Etc.

Unless specified as an extra service for an extra fee it is NOT "part of what we are paid for", however most DJs give it away for free. :trirolleyes: I don't!
IF I am contracted to provide projection or band gear and the required sound I have no part in providing options that could damage my equipment. It is this process which is assisting the rape and pillage of responsibility for ones own and the extent people will do to provide more for less.
I suppose a great selling point if your not able to sell with your skill and knowledge of what a DJ duties were initially intended to be. Perhaps you could up your importance or show how your services are premium for less by providing a band with guitars, drums, and amps as well. Provide video services and montage along with your projector and connections and just simply give these items away to show you offer more than the the DJ who merely provides exceptional music and talent.

I'm on the clock, they are paying me $265 per hr. to provide audio, I don't have a problem with it. If it involves overtime, then yes, they are charged extra.
