I like my cheap ones so much better

Rick,

When you can take a 100 foot speaker, xlr, power cable ect. and throw it across the room without a single tangle and it actually throws the full 100 feet while you hold one end!

Then you will understand, it takes no more time to overunder a cable than it does the wrap it around your elbow!

I hate to admit, I've had bad luck with Ultimate Support as well. Some of their older stands seem to last forever, but some of the newer ones... well let's say I'm not convinced.

I own a pair of silver TS70's (or 80's) and a pair of black ones. The black ones had the "knuckle" replaced once. They broke again, at the other knuckle. The silver ones... well just last week one of them fell down and the knuckle broke too.

So I'm a knuckle head... and I'm seriously thinking about going back to cheap stands. Oh, I also own a pair of the Self-rising Ultimate Support stands. Those haven't broken (yet), but one of them has to be tightened WAY to tight to stay in place. It's probably defective, but I don't use them all that much.

Hey guys, Sorry I didn't get on here yesterday. Father's day spent with my kids.

Saturday night I just took the busted part and finished it off. Then took black duct tape and put it above and below the collar and it stayed in place. Couldn't even tell it was there. No issues with the cheap cable either.

I did notice one thing though, When I plug my cable in the back of my mixer, there is a lot of stress on the cable as it turns to come out of my rack so I am going to build a new rack and give more clearance so there is no stress on the cable as it turns to go out the hole.

Thanks for the replys. I will talk to Ben and see what is what with the stands.

The absolute best speaker stand ever made is

http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.cfm/action/detail/item/2612/S-1(TM) Speaker Stand.cfm

They never break and they last forever!

These

http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.cfm/action/detail/item/9812/Speaker Stand, Black.cfm

Just like any of the other "locking collar" stands break or the threads eventually strip!

http://www.peavey.com/products/browse.cfm/action/detail/item/9812/Speaker Stand, Black.cfm

But they are sturdy when they work!

I have had and been using mine for 32 years now. They are made by Bose and it is 6.5' tall with legs splayed out and 1.5 inches in diameter not the 1.3/8 that is so common. Who says Bose isn't good for something!

I backed over my stand bag with (2) Ultimate T90's inside...(Loaded Minivan)

the bag is shredded, (Gravel Driveway) and the stands have some gashes from the stones....But all in all those stands take a beating every time i use them..
Which is putting speakers on 80lbs +... There tight, and the telelock works perfect yet.

Karl,
2 words:
Hose clamp ;)

I was at a gig (working with a friend) when one of the tightening mechanisms broke on his speaker stand.
fortunately, I had a spare lighting clamp in my car, that we attched just above where the two vertical poles meet.

it worked just fine as a band aid for the night,
and I gave it to him to keep, and he used it on that stand for quite a while.

p.s.
I bought a pair of MUSIK brand stands
(made by Ultimate, for almost half the price)
and have not had one problem in over a decade.
(I do keep them in bags when not in use)

I have had my share of problems with Ultimate stands. I have 5 pairs now and one broken one. I had a roadie try to stand on a leg for leverage while removing an HPR122i and...he busted his ass, broke the stand and had a bruise the size of Maryland from acting as a speaker pillow...but he saved the QSC. As i added speakers this year I bought pairs of stands for them (all telelocks) and I've had plenty of issues with them. I have one that the pole moves up and down in the lock position and another that the tightening mech. for the legs doesn't work properly. Both are brand new (May) and were like that out of the box. Problem is, it's $20 to ship a stand to ultimate and they want you to pay to ship it there and back...for $40 i'll by a new stand first. Aside from that...they replaced one stand i sent in with a black-collared stand so now I have one oddball stand and it drives me NUTS.

*Rant Over*

On the other hand I have a pair of $49 each On Stage Stands that are 8 years old and aside from being beat to hell and having at least one broken plastic knob on each...they work perfectly.

My question is this!!! Do you folks with issues have proper bags for your very important stands? I have had zero issues but I handle my gear a to Z with kid gloves. I hope to allow many years of proper support and quality.

and one other thing. Have you did the turn in to gain satisfaction? Depending on the source of supply you might have no issue as to price for returning them. another reason to consider your retail source. I can tell ya. If you use NLFX it might show huge proper CS.

I just wonder if the weight of speakers plays any role here...I have had Ultimate Telelocks for years with zero problems but have never put speakers over 40 pounds on them.

you set up alot faster than me perhaps it is the rush which causes issue.

I don't think set up time has anything to do with issues out of the box. I set up my shows in a 2-5 hour window depending on the size of the event. Granted I set up more than most of the members here for even smaller shows so I do have to move at a good pace. This, however, does not mean that I don't take care with setting my equipment up. I have thousands of dollars worth of products that are designed to protect my equipment, from cases to power conditioners.

Bottom line is, I buy gear from the best source at the moment. I love ben and his service is always TOP notch, but when I need a pair of speaker stands immediately, I go to guitar center because I can get them right then and they'll price match anything for me or just discount it outright and I have never had anything but good service from my guys at the local store.

With telelock, I'm slightly disappointed, but it won't sway me from Ultimate's products. I've been pleased with them as a quality, sleek, efficient product that enhances my show. Nothing good comes in this world without work or challenge.

Sorry to hear about your stands. I bought a pair of Ultimate Tele-Lock stands to replace my first, beat to hell On-State Stands...Haven't had a single issue. My only worry is that if something were to break inside the tele-lock unit, its probably not going to be fixable out on site.

I keep a pair of "cheep" on-stage stands with me at all times just in case of such a situation.
