Too much fluff is a HALF-GIG of music per week. Most of it is stuff that I'll never, ever get a request for. I don't want to "break" music. I want a subscription that anticipates the majority of the requests that I'll be getting.

Second, my library is still fairly small, maybe 12k songs. I consistently find myself going back to amazon to download things from 1,2,5 years ago. The wish here is that whatever subscription service I chose to use would supply the service of sending (or allowing download) of the new stuff, but would also have a library on hand of older material.

Maybe it'll happen, maybe it won't but that fact still remains that, while Prime cuts is a fine service, it has some deficiencies in terms of what I need. No harm in continuing to look elsewhere. On the other hand, is there anything that says prime cuts shouldn't be listening to paying clients (me) for ideas on how they can make their service even better?

Seems like a few things at play here...

- You want a service that gives you most of what's requested, but you don't want to get stuff you won't use...or at least not a lot of it. Just not possible, unless you're downloading song-by-song. I guarantee even our PrimeCuts Monthly subscribers, who only get 20 songs, once a month, and only songs that chart top 10, get songs they don't play. It's the nature of the beast. Remember when we used to buy full albums to get new music? You'd get 3-4 songs that become popular. On PrimeCuts (CD), 90% of the songs chart Top 30 for their format.

- Everything on the PrimeCuts MP3 disc, except the actual songs that were on PrimeCuts that week, are bonus. How do I figure? Here's the breakdown:
*CD: $51.45 a month (about 20 songs a week)
*MP3: $51.45 a month (about 50 songs a week)

So if you don't play any of those additional 'fluff' songs, it's not like you're paying for content you can't use. We started adding all the extra content to PrimeCuts MP3 based on feedback from paying subscribers. We highly value our subscribers feedback. (Know how I got brought on board at TM almost 8 years ago? I was one of the original PrimeCuts subscribers and I gave them tons of feedback for how to improve the product. It's not lip service when I say we listen).

- It sounds like you like having a nice, compact library without all kinds of crap on your hard drive. So, why not only copy the songs that appeared on PrimeCuts to your hard drive? That's what I do. Then I bring out the MP3 discs, so just in case a song was on HitDisc but didn't become popular enough for PrimeCuts I'll have it with me (for what it's worth, I only bring out the last year of MP3 discs).

Steve Sharp made a great post (thanks Steve!)...you're paying for a service. I'm not going to bash the competition but PrimeCuts wasn't my first promotional music service. I kept canceling the various services I tried because all left me hanging too many times without songs I needed. The night before I had to DJ, I'd spend hours going through charts and my discs to see what I was missing. I haven't had to do that in 8 years and enjoy having that time to do something more useful.

Since I signed up with PrimeCuts (8.5 years ago), there have been maybe 5 songs we didn't have for one reason or another. In that time, we've released something like 8000 songs on PrimeCuts. So if we missed 5, that's less than one half of one percent of the time that we miss something. That's what you're paying for.

Jim, you hit some very good points, thank you. Yes, I'm concerned about having a bloated library that requires ever-bigger HD space. I haven't heard anyone mention why they don't make any type of download available. Care to chime in here?

Thanks Jim that response did seem like a nick at nite re run. So just upload the hits you think are needed and keep the MP3 disc on hand for possible sleepers.

We have not been given permission to do downloads for DJs. ERG is the only music service who does downloads.

Every so often we're asked about doing downloads for DJs but I think by & large most like the disc because...

- They have a hard copy for back-up
- It can be played in an MP3 CD player if needed
- Saves hours of time (no need to look at charts, download music, make sure you downloaded everything you need, etc)

I don't expect we'll be doing downloads anytime soon due to label restrictions but also due to lack of demand (at least from our subscribers). Look at this service...it's been out for a few weeks and I've hardly heard anyone talk about it. I don't think it's because it's not a good service, I think everyone's happy still with getting everything spoon fed to them to cut down on their work.

Jim:

Add me to the minority list of those would you like the access of downloading. If it ever becomes an option, please let me know.

Jim I repped you for your great points.

Thanks...just trying to help out!

You'll be among the first to know (if it ever happens!).

Months later, you still can't back up this claim?

Weak!

Steve, no offense intended but you're being a jerk on this point. I have had more than one occasion where I've been at a gig, a new country tune gets requested, I do an alpha search, and it ain't there. This after I've faithfully loaded all primecuts material into my library. I download it from Amazon and forget it. While I can't recall the cut names, it has happened and pardon me if I don't have the time nor the inclination to try and research it to satisfy your curiosity.

Amazon supplies receipts. You could EASILY substantiate this unfounded (so far) claim.

Does complaining without backing up your claim whatsoever, twice, make you a jerk, on this point, or just me, because I'm not buying it? I'm calling BS. It's one thing to give honest feedback to a service provider, it's another thing to complain about something that's not even true.

I just logged into my Amazon account and all my downloads are there ('my account' and then 'digital orders'). Rick, if you wouldn't mind, can you please post the songs (and when you bought them) here so I can look into them? You may not realize it, but when you make posts on a message board and say we're missing popular songs people may read it and think that we are, which unfortunately reflects poorly on us.

So, if you could post the songs I would appreciate it. Then at least I can have the opportunity to publicly clear our name. Thank you.

Jim, I'll send it to you privately. I'm not up for any ridiculous "you don't have that!" snipes.

Got it--thanks.

We'll do some research and see what we come up with. I'll post the results (only for the new songs) that were on the list.

Jim, a bit of follow-up. I pulled a list of the top 40 country songs today. Out of the top 20 (sorry, it's all the time I've got to devote to this) I came up with the following missing:

Clay Walker - She Won't Be Lonely Long ***MISSING***
Steel Magnolia - Keep on Lovin' You ***MISSING***
Reba - I Keep on Loving You ***MISSING***
Lee Brice - Love Like Crazy ***MISSING***

I would appreciate if you could advise on whether I should have these as 20% is a quite-significant number of hits from the country genre that should, in my opinion, be there. If anyone else would care to look at their library and see if they've got these (from prime cuts), I'd appreciate it.

Jim, again, not trying to just rag on your company. I appreciate what you guys do. However, I don't appreciate getting dragged through the mud by my fellow forumites if I dare to question anything PC-related or offer (what I consider to be) helpful feedback. Thanks in advance.

I agree, if you were missing 20% that would be a lot....but we had all of them. :)

Here's where those songs are located on PrimeCuts:

Clay Walker - She Won't Be Lonely Long (HP200947 - 11/20/09)
Steel Magnolia - Keep on Lovin' You (HP200933 - 8/14/09)
Reba - I Keep on Loving You (HP201004 - 1/22/10)
Lee Brice - Love Like Crazy (HP200932 - 8/7/09)
