I used my new EV ZXA1 speakers this past weekend at a wedding gig. I put them to the test for both the ceremony & the cocktail hour. They worked perfectly!

I am totally blown away by the power & sound quality out of these little 19 lb speakers. These babies will be with me at every gig in the future.

BTW I also own a pair of the EV ZXA5 speakers and use these for the dancing/reception portion of the event. (great power & thump)

I must say, EV has done a fantastic job with these 2 speakers.

I am waiting for EV to make a middle man between the ZXA1's and the ZXA5's. Maybe a ZX3 or 4 active speaker. Something that can handle larger rooms than the ZXA1's but still be small, light and fully featured. And maybe a $600-700 price tag. Less would be cool too. :sqwink:

The ZXa1 doesn't cut it for me but I'm sure a ZXa2 (10") or ZXa3 (12") would. My ZXa5s most certainly fit the bill for my mobile needs.

If you provide audio for ceremonies or cocktail music (in a foyer, Etc.) These are perfect.

For anything larger, it depends on the room size, amount of people, type of gig, Etc.

I have actually done a few small wedding receptions were my ZXa5's were too much power. (I used my Mackies)

:sqbiggrin: I have yet to understand that one! There is no such thing as too much power, you can always turn it down but if you have too little you can't turn it up anymore than "11"!

Perhaps you meant they were a little bigger and heavier than what would have adequately covered the room!:sqbiggrin:

I can see what he is talking about. Turn it down to much and the speakers don't sound as good. They need some power to drive the LF drivers.

Just like with the ZXA1's. If you turn them down to much the low ends drops out, but if you can keep them in the middle or at least turn up the gain on the speakers them selves they come back to life.

Yep, this is an adequate statement in relation to the ZXa1s. Those type of rooms are usually not very big and the volume is not required to be loud. I've done several ceremonies that are outside in larger sized gazebo-type areas with easily 60 - 100 people. I would be very afraid the ZXa1s wouldn't cut the mustard which brings the need for a larger (more powerful) ZXa2 or 3. Hopefully EV doesn't make them with the same 800 watt amp... more power is DEFINITELY needed.

With the link he provided it looks like he picked up the 90° versions.

As for pricing, Contact the crew at NLFX. They have some fantastic deals. I'll just say that a local music store couldn't touch their pricing. Even after the salesmen begged his manager to try and make the sale.

Thank you Gentlemen. I'll get in touch with Ben in just a few minutes! Would love to use a pair of these for a ceremony I have coming up on 5-15 :)
 
I'm not sure about what sub would match up with them but I did use them stand-alone for a reception. It was a small reception (about 90 people) in a small room (dining room of a B&B) but they rocked it. I'd probably stick to using them for ceremonies, small private parties & wedding receptions that are in a small venue.
