I'm on a budget and came across a really good deal on some Chauvet Min spots, and i'm on a pretty tight budget this month and need a couple moving heads for a school gig that wants an " american idol " style setup....anyone have any experience with these??? I know the xmoves are supposed to be a lil brighter but they are out of my price range this month...thanks!

I guess my problem is i need to pick up a pair of decent moving heads for 600 or less and is this even possible? ( And i should mention that if i know what light to look at i can usually find new ones at close to dealer prices, i just need to know what i'm looking for) And then next month i'd be buying 2 more to make it a set of 4, if anyone knows of a pair of moving heads that i can get in the $600 a pair range, new or used please let me know, i had found a pair of used american dj spot 250's for $400, but they sold right before i called the guy :( I need to find a pair by the end of next week, otherwise i'll have to rent a pair and pay 200 just to rent them....thanks

so you are obligated to this event? If so you might want to rent for this event since your budget isnt going to offer proper lights for this event which apparently needs more than you can cover with your budget to buy.

Yeah, I'm obligated to it , but not only that, we've decided that for some of our bigger events comin up in the next couple months, we'd like to add in some moving heads for starters I'm gonna use my global truss triangle Trussing and put 1 on on top of each truss piece with uplighting inside, 1 on each side of my booth and then once i have 4 of them i'll put them up on the trussing above us, but i have so much going on right now that i really need to find moving heads i can buy for around $600 a pair

You are stuck in a losing situation. A pair of movers for $ 600.00 will not do the job for the event you're contracted to do, and picking up a second pair "for the bigger events coming up" will still not do the job.

Either rent and do the job right or find additional funding and buy the right gear.

After talking a bit with Ben (NLFX), We are gonna go with 4 of the Q-Spot 150's to start and then upgrade into the Q-Spot 260's. Figure we can get a better ''look'' from 4 semi bright but not as bright moving heads, then 2 really bright but might be over kill moving heads.

Seriously talk to Ben, He has insane pricing on those Chauvet lights. And you might be lucky enough to get Kat on the phone when you call.

One more little question, has anyone ever used the American DJ Spot 250's?? I've found some decent deals around on those and if i have to may just end up picking up a pair of them instead of the minspots??

They are complete junk, I had 2 that didn't make it though a 4 hour gig. Took the one back and the pair didn't make it though the second gig. I took them back.

$600, your best option will be a pair of scanners.

Look at the Martin SCX 500's. I know you can get them for under your $600 budget. Again Ben @ NLFX is the guy to call.

I actually already have 4 scanners, but they're the cheapest lights i own ( old Chauvet's), I really like those martins, might be time for an upgrade there, I may get those for this gig and next month i have 3 weddings for maybe I'll go ahead and just purchase the q spot 260's, Thanks for the help guys

To be honest, I would wait to see a side by side comparison from the Q-Spot 150's to the 260's. The 150's maybe more of what you need. Also the size difference is huge. 13 lbs vs 30 lbs Also 9x9x14 to 12x12x20 in size.

I think you can get a better looking 'effect' by having 4 of the smaller lights then 2 of the larger lights. (That is based on the price to purchase 4 vs the 2).

YMMV, but that is the 'conclusion' that I have come up with.

By the Way DRZinc, Thanks for your post, i checked out those blizzard lights, and very tempting, especially with that price tag but i'm wary just because it's an offbrand, Has anyone ever heard of these?? I've Been looking around and i'm kind of sold on the idea of upgrading my scanners now, What do you think about the American DJ Comscan LED scanners??? There's some great deals on them , and in the videos i can find looks like they might be great
