After the Gig is over what do you do? Vote In Poll!

always always pack up slow and organized

a little time packing up right saves a lot of time unpacking at the next gig

If we have the luxury of time we'll get everything disconnected, covered and loaded out without rushing.

Sometimes we don't have the luxury of time. A hotel ballroom is an example. Once the staff has finished cleaning up they need to lock up. In these cases we'll use an area outside the room for staging. Get disconnected and load everything out to the staging area. Then we can take our time getting it stowed, covered and loaded out to the truck.

There is this one DJ who I know, that after a show, acts like the place is on fire. He is always in a hurry to scram. He even goes so far as to change clothes before the show is over. I think that part is rude!

I tend to pack up fast (but organized) In most cases the staff is on a timeline & they want to get shut down & they don't apprecaite a DJ that lollygags around.
If they have to pay staff to sit & wait on the DJ, that's not good.

Everyplace I ever played, the staff was always setting up for the next event in the room so this was never an issue.

I can't really vote. We don't take our time, yet we don't act as if the place is on fire. We pack up everything quickly and neatly, usually done and loaded out within a half hour of the end of the event. Rushing only leaves a mess and a risk of forgetting/losing something. However, people want to get home after a long day and there's no sense in making venue staff wait on us to leave.

I don't rush, but yet I go fast enough to get my stuff packed and ready to go in a timely fashion. Since the setup only takes like 15 minutes to put away..I get done, and then I visit with either the bar staff if a bar booking, or I visit with some of the remaining clients...normally at this point I am getting hugs and handshakes.

I would never ever rush so much as to act like I needed to get the heck out of there! That is completely rude, and wrong!

Yes I would rush like a madman...if...and only if...there was a specific timeline, and the venue had a valid reason they needed you to rush so crazily.

Well most of the time I get laid but if that isn't happening I just go on home!

i typically smoke a joint in the van....as I am pulling away, after I counted my money.

:sqeek: Oh My! He said the "J" word! :sqlaugh:

My set up is pretty minimal so tear down happens quickly. But it's taken me 3 years to get to this point. Before that, I've had some tear downs that have taken me over an hour - even when rushing. Now if I end up using that much gear I bring more people to tear down/set up faster.

I will say this though - I will NOT throw my cords in a box and take off. Took doing that just once before I take the time to properly roll up my cables. I can do that almost as fast as just getting them together and throwing them in a box!

Most of my events are at hotels and there is no pressure getting out. I take my time, pack my stuff right and relax. If I try and hurry, I hurt myself or break gear, not worth it... On the way home I run thru taco Bell usually... Jack In The Box if TB is closed...
