Why is there no punch from my JBL SRX728 subs?

oh and by the way Ripper my earlier comment meant the same as the poster above this post. Thanks for the lessons. The part that confused me the most was the title of the thread beginning with Why?
I assumed that you were asking for answers and soon realized like Thunder you in fact were asking only so you could teach us. Thanks again I feel much more enriched at this time.

I wouldn't say I know any more than anyone else really. Definately not. Erm, Crown, not sure, maybe they had problems with overheating when people had a big rack of them, but if I finally do decide to power my pair of SRX728 subs using the Crown k2 amp si'll only be using 2, plus i'm gonna put a 4 fan rack in the back of the cabinet anyway.


John, nah, I did ask why my sub didn't have much punch, then realised after a while where I was going wrong, and why my sub had little punch, because I wasn't getting enough line elevel into the amp. Mis-matched levels caused me problems, amking me think that the SRX728 subs wasn't the massive poowerhouse everyone claims it to be, but now i'm putting adequate power through it, i'm getting ever closer to realising just how brilliant the sub is for the £1,300 it sells for. I say i'm realising, because probably due to its low sensitivity (97db) i'm gonna need to put more power through it (as aposed to a sub with a higher senseitivity). In the end, although people say the sub comes to life when you put 3,000 watts through it, the music style i'm playing is so bass heavy its unreal, so I dont wanna overpower it, especially considering that people who are telling to put 3k through it, play rock music generally. I should think by my event in March next year, i'll have a solid idea of what to power it with and then I can just relax as i'll have found the perfect solution for my application of playing the style I play.
 
And you're confident that the sub could handle 3k continuous for 8-9 hours continuous that I run my events, considering the music style I play? Ok. Thanks.
 
That would be a question for JBL and the manufacturer of whatever power amp you decide to purchase.

exactly, you need twice the system, you said it yourself.

If it's not enough without clipping the amps or overdriving the speakers, then you don't have enough rig for the gig.
 
Yeah but regardless of whether i've got enough rig, I never clip my system. Never have, never will. All my mates clip their systems all the time, but they use RCK, Skytec and Gemini speakers with and American Audio, W Audio and other cheapo amps so why not clip those piece of sh*t systems, they're like toy systems that you'd get in the BFG's (big friendly giant, ronald dahl) christmas cracker compared to my JBL SRX system that i'm building up.
 
If i was playing that kind of music with sub sonic bass....

I'm pretty sure i'd build at least (4) Lab Subs. They would go low enough grouped in 4's, And the output would blow out your birthday cake.
 
I'm useless at building speakers, the only builder I know for 200 miles of me wanted £400 to build each cabinet excluding costs for wood, glue, screws, drivers etc...and plus it would of taken weeks and weeks to build them. I couldn't be doing with the hassle and just decided to go with JBL's fantastic SRX728 subs. I'm well happpy anyway, its a brilliant sub.

I didn't say you were clipping your system. I just said if you can't get what you want without clipping it, then you don't have enough rig.

I'll be done now, I think this is one of those conversations that no matter what somebody says, it's not going to be right unless it's what your thinking anyway.
 
Actually you're getting it wrong, I never thought you said I was clipping my system, I just thought i'd mention that at least i'm not one of these idiots that clips a pa system.
 
Hey? Attitude? I've not got an attitude, I just hate those cheapo manaufacturers. I'm not slating anyone who owns them manufacturer's equipment or can't afford to buy decent equeipment. I haven't done an event with my JBL sub yet, and the problem was because of a level mismatch so it was easy enough to sort out, I just had to scratch my brain and see what was in front of me to find out why my SRX728 sub didn't have any punch. But it does now, woo, god it does.
 
This thread is getting close to the end of it's useful life any more baiting it will be closed....
