I was offered 10% of the alcohol receipts for the night for DJing an old school school night. The old school party will be on Sundays from 930 to 130.

I guess it would depend on several things.
1. Do you normally work on Sundays.
2. What is the average take before you started?
3. Would you get a minimum salary, say 100 min or 10% which ever is greater?
Could be a good deal if it is a really busy venue, otrherwise not worth the time.

I do tab bill bookings with a lot of my bands, and they always are happy with it. Most of the time, they come out with more than they would a regular door deal.
However, like was mentioned before, it would depend on what your regular rate is.

Well, if you look at it like "even if I make $100.00, its a $100.00 more than I had when I came thru the door", then all is well....if you have a set minimum that you won't roll a wheel for, then its an obvious crap shoot. Me?...I'd give it a go; once anyway.
Back when I was playing in bands, I was with a country group that got an offer to "split the door" for a New Years party at a large bottle club....we all talked it over and figured "sure, why not?"....no kidding, I took home $7.00 for the evening....LMAO.
Tough call Ruben....if Sundays are usually quiet for you anyway, give it a whirl.

i dont say in 4 hrs a lot of drinks cant be consumed but it also depends on the crowd.it can be a hit or miss here.
To get an estimate of what you might make Multiply the capacity/expected crowd (Be conservative) X Average Spending per person X 10% and you will have an average of what you will receive.
Lets supposed the Capacity/attendance is 200 people
Spending is $30.00 per person
You will expect to get about 200 x $30.00 X 10% = $600.00

It does not sound like it's too bad of a deal.
Are Sunday's nights busy at the location? Many people will have to go to work Monday morning.

I would ask for some money plus a peace of the bar action.

Sunday is not a problem with me. Don't book gigs on Sunday nights.
They don't have any type of entertainment on Sundays. The room is pretty small. I'm guessing it can hold about 60+ people. This place has been know as a "swingers" bar.
I'm thinking of wearing a thong now.

If you gonna do the Gig let me know. I will send you a list of songs to play that will guarantee that you get hired again. I did two Lifestyle/Swingers Club for 8 years 4 years each. The Last one was at a Clothing Optional Resort.

So you're looking at 60 people each spending an average of $25 X .10 or roughly $150 for 4 hours on a night you're not doing anything anyway.
(Just guessing this place may not attract high rollers so I pulled the $25 pp out of my butt)

I agree with Madness, ask for a mininum, and you get whichever is greater: your minimum, or the 10%.

Well at least he is getting his foot in the door. If it works out in his favor fine. If he feels like he did a good job and he should get more then he can renegotiate. By that time they would have experienced his performance.
Also remember its a Sunday so he is not forsaking another gig for this one. If he hardballs now, they may just look for a bottom feeder.

If you're usually not booked Sunday nights, jump at it. Most times you may not make much but 1 or 2 referrals can sure make it worth your time. I did a Friday night gig for a piece of the bar tab, 20% I think. I ended up pocketing $350 but I ended up with two weddings from bar patrons that were there that night. That one night actually netted me over $1500 considering I now had work for three nights I previously didn't.

Tips Count Too!
Don't forget tips count too. Those kind of people are great tippers. Get some interactive music on and a game or two and you'll have the crowd going. Make sure and do a Ladies Only Dance and play (For that Dance) "P-Control" by Prince or "Crazy Bitch" by Buck Cherry or "Bitch" by Meridith Brooks

If you think "long term",,, let's say you make $200.00 a night... that's $800.00 a month or $7600.00 a year, or so depending on every Sunday night.....

I think people are more apt to tip better these days, then they were years ago -- so, I would think you could walk out with some cash, if they have a decent crowd...
I worked a couple small bars on the off days up here, and there very few tips at first. After getting to know the regular crowd though, and playing what they wanted -- the tips started rolling in
After a while, I started getting beers left and right, and a few hundred bucks in the tip jar each night
Very lucrative, if the crowd is into you (and you take the time to learn them).
