CD Player issues...any suggestions on what might be the problem?

Just recently both of my AA CDI-500 cd players aren't reading some of my burned cds and I would like some suggestions as to what the problem might be. Both players have been treated very well and are in a cd coffin.

Here is what I have done:
Playing purchase cds works fine, cd player reads them with no sound problems. Been using maxell cd-r discs, but can't find them anymore. Bought sony cd-r discs, cd player couldn't read the burned cd (CD player message said 'no disc'). But the disc played in my portable cd player. So I thought it was my cd burner. I deleted it and then re-installed it onto my computer. Burned another disc--didn't solve problem. Purchased memorex cd-r discs, burned a disc--works part of the time. I have noticed that when the cd player has been on for 30 minutes or more (heats up) it doesn't read the disc (as explained above) or the disc plays for a few seconds and then starts over or there is crackling noise. Prior to all this I used a cd cleaner disc to clean the laser lens a few times--didn't solve problem.

So I'm guessing that it might be the cd player laser that is causing the problem or the place that I burn my music from (Itunes). Any suggestions and/or sollutions on what you might think the problem is would be helpful.
 
Clean the laser lense. That's one thing. I would also burn the discs at the slowest possible speed. My Denon's are picky with CD-R's that are burned at top speed. Once I reduce burn speed there are no problems. Hope this helps.
 
does the cd player read/plays mp3's?? if thats the format you burn them in the player might not be designed to handle mp3's.play it back in the computer and see if it works.

I have cleaned laser lense several times--still have problem with reading disc.

Burn speed is set to maximum possible, which is 24x. I don't know if that is the problem because my previous burned cds that I have burned 5 months ago work fine--it isn't until recently that I'm having cd problems.

What lower speed should I go to 16x, 8x, 2x, or 1x?

CD player doesn't read mp3 format, just cd/cd-r.
 
Placed burned sony cd into computer--it had a hard time reading disc. Song didn't play in windows media player or using itunes. Burned memorex cd (using same spead same song) played in windows media player and in itunes--played normal. But when played in dj cd player it had a hard time reading it or had crackling noise along with the song or it would loop on its own. But when dj cd player was 'cool' the cd played fine. So I think its the laser and the heat of the cd player combo that is causing the problem--any solutions--should I send them in for repair?
 
Try the Verbatim Silver CD-Rs and see if they do any better for you. Reason I say this, some CD-R brands are not of good quality.

When we had the old Gemini CD rig, the decks wouldn't read some CD-Rs. Or they'd read 'em sometimes but not others. The Verbatim Silver was suggested. Have not had a CD-R issue since. They're worth every dime. :)

Another thing ~ tower-based CD burners don't last forever. The last one I had, it got to where it was making bad discs. If they won't play in your puter's CD drive, they're no good. I also concur with lowering the burning speed and see if that helps.

It's possible the issue lies in your decks... but having them both act up at the same time causes me to wonder if it's something else.
 
Use the lowest speed possible. My burners can go up to 52x but for the CD's used on the Denon's I reduce the speed to 4X and have not had a problem. When I burn the mp3 discs for my cars I can get away with full speed burning but not for the Denon's.

As suggested use a quality CD-R. I've had very good luck with Imation and Sony, while the cheap Office Max and Office Depot brands are a PITA ;)

I will look for the verbatim cds. I don't use a tower burner, I'm using HP external drive since my computer drive stopped working. I will try a lower speed.

I will try using a slower speed to see if that will solve my problem and using a quality cd-r discs.

Man, I have had awesome success with cheap brands and mixed success with some of the "good" brands. You just never know.

I once bought a box of 100% generic CDS... no labels even on them. There were 500 of them for $60... I don't know if I had a single bad burn.

I do know that MEMOREX CDs were terrible, so I stopped using them entirely.

If the songs are already on your computer -- why burn them, and play off CD players...?

I could recommend some good DJ software, that would make your life much easier, your back happier, etc... ;) :)
 
Memorex CD-R's are garbage. The upper layer or label side will chip off easily. That leaves a hole in your disc that Stevie Wonder can see through. :eek:

No offense intended towards Brother Rick or nothin'... but our Pio CD rig will read and play those chipped Memorex CD-R's. ;)
 
I actually have the same issue with my Playstation 2, it will not read any brand burnt audio CD me thinks Sony is making yet another convoluted attempt to curb piracy but I cannot prove it. :rolleyes:

I concur on the slowing down the burn speed and trying different brands. I don't burn many CDs these days, more-a-less compilations, and ISO's here and there so I get by with the cheapo brands as they're pretty much disposable to me.

If you cannot get it to work a work around would be to buy a discman for $20-$30 + a minijack to RCA cable and patch it into your mixer for that matter an MP3 player + mini jack to RCA skips all the burnt CD read issues and can serve as a backup in a pinch. :)
 
Ditto what the other folks have said about burning at a slower speed.

But - and this is important, as I discovered this by talking with one of the engineers where I purchase equipment. The CD-R's you bought 5 years ago, aren't what you buy today. The finishing process has been changed at the factories, and the discs burn differently.
 
One other thought. The deck you rip from might need the laser cleaned as well and clear cash etc C CLeaner etc. any software can get bogged down by drive issues as well as laser gunk.

Playing off the computer willl be my next choice if I can't find a solution to my problem, then I'll ask ya on what software to use.
