Your perspective changes....

I still believe Kristofferson was/is the best songwriter ever

But as I get older I really appreciate Lennon/McCartney. I was never a big fan of thier songwriting until recently...It was OK but I could live with or without it. In the last couple of weeks I have listened to the whole Beatles collection. It's incredibly simple and simply incredible
 
Lennon and McCartney wrote what will probably be regarded as the most influential musical compositions of the 20th century.

When I was younger I never cared for Kenny Rogers. That Coward of the County song really irritated me and I just didn't like him. Today, I listen to his music and think gosh, but he's got a great voice. He's done some tunes that fill the dance floors with buckle polishers. :)
 
You start to enjoy all the music eventually, well 98% of it I still can't stand some of it.

A couple of years ago I was watching my Sunday morning old farts program (Sunday Morning) on CBS. Kristofferson was featured in a segment. The conversation was about Kristofferson's early career and finally came around to Me and Bobby McGee. The reporter alluded to the much greater success of Joplin singing his song.

It is hard to know what is going on in someone's head but it seemed a cross between admiration and gratefulness when Kristofferson replied "she (Joplin) nailed it." in expressing true appreciation for a rendition of his work.

you have tried to keep up with the times by gaining a 500 gig HD and you didnt understand tagging having just got your visitrax loaded with many days of loading CDs to find now you must tag MP3.
 
Wow Jeff thats so timeless. I totally recall those days. Some of the girls the Football etc. Best times of my life. My Father talking to me on the back porch while barbecue. Uncertainty in the future. Working in the lumber mill. My God I had no idea where life was to lead me.
 
Last summer I did the 20th reunion of the class of '88 from my high school. This was the year I was supposed to graduate but due to lack of caring and commitment in grade 10 I didn't make it until '89. t was a great night I got to see some old friends I hadn't seen in some time and a good time was had by all.

The thing I noticed is some people change dramatically. Most things become less important and others become more important as you grow older.

Others never change and for some that's for the good. Some of the most interesting people I know are 40 and still don't know what they will do when they grow up. Others just can't get rid of that same feeling of self importance that has been with them for many years and that's sad.

It's funny an old friend reminded me of something I said 20 years before that night. The subject of reunions was brought up and I said they would have to pay me to go and ironically that's the way it worked out.

We are dong the '89 reunion this summer. Unfortunatly I am booked for a weddng elsewhere I would've liked to personally handle this one.
 
I liked the newer music..until now!

I now am echoing this thread..the older singers and song writers have the real talent.


Now everything is so digitally produced, there are only a few small gems left in this world.

I did a HS dance a week ago..and only three classic..well even three country songs were played all night. Literally almost drove me crazy. But then again...it's their party...not mine.

I bet out of all the new songs for that event..I only jammed out to like 20 of them?

I find it very sad...music is going in this direction. =(

I know exactly what he means
I write commercial radio scripts for ads, and I have a definitely "sound" in mind when I write. Then I give it to someone else to record it, and they put their own spin on it. Of course, knowing that he'd make a mint off of Joplin's more successful version probably didn;t hurt
 
Well it looks like Jeff and I finally agree on something LOL

I have been a kristofferson fan from way back in the 70's when most didn't even know who he was.

He has written a lot of songs that people don't even realize.
