Okay SVO (and others)

I have my laptop-gigaport-mixer-JBL PRX's laying on your gurney. They arent dead, just very sick. What is your diagnosis????

Last night I only had audio from one speaker. I have a signal coming from the both channels of the mixer. finally realize that I have to depress the "mic in" button on the back of the PRX's instead of the normal "line in" setting to make it work.

Everything seems fine from laptop to mixer. Playing through both channels.

I bypassed the driverack for ease of tracking the problem.

The signal coming from the mixer is EXTREMELY hot. I have to keep my main volume on the mixer at about 1/10. Normally I run it at about 8/10. My mic gain is extrmemly sensitive and loud.

Why would my PRX's only work in the "mic in" setting? Is my mixer toast and sending out a strange signal? I could not figure this out in the heat of the moment and will set them up later tonight but wondered if this has happend to anyone?

Sounds like an issue with the speaker - specifically on the pre-amp for the line-level signal. Be careful running the mixer into the Mic setting on speakers. That is engaging a MUCH more sensitive preamp/circuit which has a lot more gain like you said, and it will be that much easier to blow the whole cab running an already-boosted signal into that circuitry.

I would test the speakers with another mixer.... go down the chain to eliminate each piece.

If the speakers work fine with your back up stuff, you do have back up stuff right? :)

then you know that they are okay....

Take the gig-a-port out, then the mixer, try each piece...

sounds like to me if you have a new "HOT" signal coming out of your mixer, that might be a problem....

but I would take each piece and start one by one...

Kris,

I would plug a CD player or iPod directly to the speaker. If the problem persists the problem is the speaker. If it works the problem is in the chain as stated by all of the above.

I do have back up gear silly, just wasn't with me last night (my bad).

It's not the speakers come, to find out because each of the three have the same issue. I think it has to be the mixer. I just don't know enough about the science of the audio signal to understand what's going on. Thanks for the toughts so far, I'll be testing tonight if I have the energy :sqfrown:

Try different cables Kris, could be a cable problem.

Ohhhh I tried the crap out of cables...all with the same result. I wonder if the histologist just sliced the tissue too thick??????

Sorry, lab-nerd talk.

Depends on the settings of the microtome :D:D:D:D:D

It's good to be in the field :D:D:D:D:D:D

God... Now I'm having Histo flashbacks!

Undergrad class... but my class final was dying, slicing, & preparing rat liver slides for the prof.

I never appreiated what a histologist did until I tried slicing some chunk of stuff - it was a mess. Give me a petri dish and a gram stain anyday.

Yes Joe, but I feel that the government would bail you out of the problem :D:D:D:D

Back up gear that is not with you at the gig is not "back up" gear. Its "at home" gear! :sqlaugh: Anyways, just making light of the matter. I don't know what to say other than whats been already said. What kind of mixer is it?

I hear you. I will NEVER go without my trailer again no matter what the weather! My mixer is (was) a Numark AVMO2 audio/video mixer. Hopefully the video side is still okay and I'll keep it around for that and grab a new simple 4 channel mixer.

Since one side is working and you have decreased sounds on the other side with intermittent hissing noise I'd say it's a Tension Pneumothorax or possibly a Sucking Chest Wound. Is there a puncture wound perhaps? Some cellophane taped on three sides over the wound should do the trick.

As for the audio I have no F!#$ing idea.:sqerr: Call for the bird an fly it out to a level I center like NLFX.:sqeek:

KMG365 out

Rub some Windex on the mixer :D:D:D:D
