How many of you are getting requests for "Paper Airplanes" by M.I.A. at your mobile gigs?

Seems like a lot of folks have seen the movie "Slum Dog Millionaire" in our area, because I've had two requests in the past three weeks, for this semi-new song.

Its really not a danceable song, IMO-- but the crowds who ASK FOR IT -- seem to love it!

Also, to show everyone how open minded I have become--- I caved on the Chris Brown issue (thanks to all who said to keep playing him).

My client (age 30-- her Valentine's Day Birthday) said "Let's remember him for what he was --NOT what he has become. She drew the analogy to MJ -- we love the "Thriller" era MJ not the pervert he turned into.

She also threw a whimsical curve into the mix: She said "Matt, if you play any Chris Brown, which I hope you will, please play a Rihanna song back-to-back with it."

During dinner I played "Umbrella," [the party was under a gigantic tent] followed by "With You"

Later, because it was Jessica's birthday, played "Forever" back-to-back with "S.O.S." by Rihanna.

So much for my solidarity with Wrigley's --- my customer is always right!

I haven't gotten a request for "Paper Planes" since last summer. However, you'll want to make sure you have the DFA remix - that's the version used in Slumdog Millionaire and it makes the song slightly more danceable than the version that was used in "Pineapple Express" last year.

Usually the people that say that probably aren't doing worth a crap in school either.

I usually block out the idiots. They are the same ones that can't help but dance to Ice Ice Baby. Same people that ask, "Do you have any good music?"

Who cares if its old? Classics slam the floor after the jam of the day wears off.

Laffy Taffy anyone? Me thinks not. Soulja Boi is starting to clear the floors in my area now except for the idiot who asked if I had any good music.

Same could be said about a baby. From the moment it's born, it's dying. Thank goodness for the time between birth and death it needs to become a classic, just like you Denny-pooh.

Haven't had any requests for it and won't play it regardless of who asks for it.
 
Cap this is why I am asking, your saying that you have never had complaints that the music you have played at ANY show is old and they are asking for New Material ?

DJ Dennis : I was just playing with you, Dennis. I thought our forum friendship foothold was stronger than what it apparently is, and for that I'm sorry for over stepping the line.

There is ALWAYS one or two social outcasts or rebels or gotta be different for the sake of being different people at every event I do. They are tolerated for their applauded differences but not to the extent where their personal eccentricities steer my ship in a direction that takes it into charted dangerous waters. To be told that a one or two or three week old song is out dated is pure insanity and would make me question what this or these people do in life, for life, and would have zero reservations in telling them to get one (life, that is).

My apologies again for not taking your question as seriously as it deserved.
 
no worries I understand

just I am too tired to care - if a client wants new new they can bloody buy it or get what I already have with me
