Creating a Website-Where to get graphics?

So, where does one go about getting graphics and photos for a website?

I need a nice, professional looking photo of an attractive bride and groom, a nice blue sky background with some fluffy white clouds maybe with some palm trees.

I really wonder if I'm going to be able to do this myself???

I'm hoping to do a simple, clean looking main page with maybe 4-5 tabs going to sub pages like "contact me", "music", "packages" and "equipment&lighting".

Later when I know what I'm doing I can get fancy, for now I just need something simple.
 
I pm'd you the link to give you all you are asking for why not give it a whirl it is free. I did lots of research for this and from the professional templates to make a nice clean site. Your server, your own URL everything. Most importantly you could acknowledge the effort, or not.
 
I took a quick look at it LATE last night and I guess I didn't realize what it was. Thank you. I'll take another look, I appreciate your help and efforts on my behalf.
 
Buy a camera (tax write off), and go out and take pics -- you then hold the copyrights by default.

If you are using other people's images (e.g. wedding shot), get a permission waiver signed by them -- could be friends, relatives, whatever.

Anything else, and you are always open to lawsuits (which won't happen until you make lots of money -- but they will eventually happen).
 
Jon, I looked at your PM from last night and I didn't see any information about the templates, website hosting or anything else, just the link to the Mrdelicious.com cookie website. I've decided not to pursue the Mr. Delicious for the moment. I am working on another company name that can incorporate the wedding DJ, Karaoke and personal performance businesses. I'll have 3 simple websites linked to each other with brief mentions of the other businesses on each website.

Do you realize how many people come to these forums and others -- not just DJs? Did ya ever wonder who all those "guests" are...?


You are losing much needed exposure, by not using your business name, and using a goofy pic.


Use the web to your advantage... ;)


BTW, if ya ask why I have a spaceship in mine, it's easy -- I spend tens of thousands a year in adverts -- I don't need it :)

Rick, I am doing ten things right now to get my new business up and running and rest assured that soon my avatar will have a nice picture of yours truly and my new company name along with a link to my new website. My incubation period is over. I am going into high gear to make things happen. Not too long ago I didn't even know what a mixer was, I've made huge progress, HUGE.

I'll be contacting you to do the SEO once I have some other things in place and the website built.
 
thanks Davey I couldnt find the link thats a very good resource as I have used it in past efforts.
 
I prefer Go Daddy they have been really good to me. others have used different ones and claimed the best. Your just buying a URL wherever you can find the best deal. I have seen urls registered for under five bucks in the past. I think Go Daddy is around 10-11 per url unless you buy six then they are 4 dollars or something.
 
Ok, that's a drop in the bucket compared to what I'm going to be spending in the next couple of months. Sounds like it really doesn't matter who I use to register the domain names. Thanks Jon!

I was just on godaddy and they have their Deluxe hosting where you can have multiple domains sharing the same bandwidth... so instead of paying for multiple hosting packages for each domain you can have one hosting package for all three.... the only drawback is the bandwidth and storage is shared... but at 6.79 a month it ain't such a bad deal.

Domain registration with them would be 1.99 for the first one and 9.99/ea for the others unless you purchase individual hosting packages then each could be as cheap as 1.99.

They also have another hosting solution that includes a very rudimentary online design program that includes templates. But, honestly I tried them at first and backed my hosting to the Deluxe package where I had to use either a text editor or a program such as Dream Weaver to design with.

Dream Weaver from Adobe is very expensive but, very powerful... there are alternatives to it just ask around some may have sugestions for graphical design programs... some here just edit in text editors but I find that rather difficult. Some use Frontpage which is discontinued... there are some very basic programs that can be picked up online or at any local office supply store that usually have some basic templates and rudimentary design capabilities that probably would serve you well initially.

Now, Yahoo offers probably the best online design product called Yahoo Sitebuilder... and is included with their hosting solutions but, they are more expensive per month at something like 12-15.00 per month. I started out with this but as their hosting costs went higher and the site development tools didn't change I moved on to Godaddy and have been happy ever since.

Not necesarily true Wiz... if you register a domain say with Yahoo... first of all you pay them for the registration but now lets say you want to host it elsewhere like Godaddy.... there are a couple of options such as moving your domain registration to them (which is what I did) or the more difficult DNS pointing.... (still don't understand that stuff)

Either way you end up having to pay to transfer your domain when all is said in done the best is to register and host at the same place.... you get discounts as Jon has mentioned by doing that.
 
Ron with the site builder your considering you can use the sites domain and point the go daddy one to it.
 
If you google wedding photos and like some, ask the photographer. They may just ask for a link back, charge a couple of bucks (save the receipt!) or just give them to you if they are out of the area. At worst they will say no.
