at this point it seems all he needs is his domain names Rob.

Good point....

And you can use just about any domain registrar to do a domain search on to see if your choices are available.... keep in mind the shorter the better and in most cases if you can eliminate using symbles such as ( - _ and the such) the better. For example:

totalimpactdjs.com is better than total_impact_djs.com, why because fewer letters no symbols and it reflects the company name.

Hope that helps... others will have good ideas too.

If you google wedding photos and like some, ask the photographer. They may just ask for a link back, charge a couple of bucks (save the receipt!) or just give them to you if they are out of the area. At worst they will say no.

That is not a cool idea :sqerr:

Without written permission from the folks in the photo -- you leave yerself wide open...

There's way too many lawyers these days, who make their living off that sort of stuff!

No offense to anybody here -- but there is WAY too much misinformation in this thread :sqwink:

I'm going to search for some royalty free photos. I've seen some websites that sell royalty free photos, but I don't know if there will be any of brides and grooms, I'll find out soon . . .

I sent an email to wedj and depending on what they have to say I may use them for everything-OR-there is another company that was recommended by Jon that looks great. I don't think wedj does the domain name registration so if I go with them then I'll need to register the domain and have it transferred if I use them.

I may have wedj host the main wedding website and use another company to host the other websites and just have them link to each other. I'll know all of this tomorrow. Tomorrow I make the decision of what the company name will be and what the main website domain name will be and where it will be hosted.

You guys are really helping me a lot, I really appreciate it!!!

It's funny, I often sing "Somewhere over the rainbow", actually 2 different versions, Judy Garland and the Israel Kamakawiwo?ole version which I truly love, it's a beautiful and haunting song.

That tag line is from an old ladies hair dye commercial: "don't hate me because I'm beautiful". I wonder if anyone remembers that old commercial other than me?

Oh my God Becky !!!!! Ron please pm your phone so we can discuss some strategy. I am considering giving WEDJ another shot as I had great success with them a few yrs back but didnt after the market got loaded with locals.

This is a beautiful thing. I'm pleased as punch!

Jon, that little bit of a clue you gave me on how to choose domain names was the proverbial light bulb above my head. I went and searched several domains that will make a big difference in coming up when potential searches are made.

They won't necessarily be the same as my company name, but I realize now that they don't have to be the same. Maybe that's really simple to the savvy web people, but it just sunk in for me. This whole process is getting more and more interesting as I wade in deeper. Jon, I owe you for this.

Domain names are cheap and you can have a bunch of domain names pointing to the same web site, very cool. This stuff is making sense to me . . .:sqbiggrin:

Stock photos of dancing or B&Gs are (to me) a cop out. If a service's events are truly as
wonderful as those picture would lead the buyer to believe, then, grab a camera and a permission slip the next time you head out.

Think about it this way. If you were a deck builder, would you show a picture of your own work or the catalog photo?

Just a thought.

I agree, however for somebody just starting with no current shots (or back from retirement, *ahem*, as I was two years ago), it is a good starting place. And we are not all the best photographers, wouldn't you want the best images possible for your sales tools?

Wade, you hit the nail on the head!

I'm also in the hunt for a couple of images that tie into my potential company name that are not at first blush related to weddings. I have a concept in mind that I think will be very nice and will allow me to be me . . .

I just created a VERY rough first draft of what I want my main page to look like. I'm beginning to think that I may not be able to do this myself, I really don't know at this point. I haven't tried using a template and I'm not even really sure how to go about it.

With stock photo sites, do multiple searches with different word variations of what you are looking for (bride, bride dancing, bride and groom dancing, first dance, wedding dance, etc) and take the time to go several pages deep into the search results.

And most of those sites, price the photos based on the file size you need. If you are using them for web only (not for print marketing), go with 72dpi files (most medium and small files on istock.com). If you ever intend to use them for both, then spend the extra money now and get them at 300 dpi. But don't go getting every photo at the larger size "just in case", it's just a waste of money, trust me. Know what you plan to use it for.
