Do both!!! Definately use the power con on the exterior of the case and definately use a 90 degree cable. Make sure you always store the cable in the case instead of a seperate wire box. If they are always together you shouldn't have a problem.

As a form of backup, wire an IEC plug as well. You can either flush mount it on teh case as well or just tuck it inside the case. That will be your backup. Obviuosly, you have to make sure you never plug both in as the same time. To prevent anyone else from doing this you can use some electrical tape or if you are using the screw on type, simply make a small plastic plate and screw the plate over the plug using the same screws that you would secure the plug. If you end up in a pinch, someone always has an IEC cors hanging around somewhere and a screw driver.

I would not recommend this with the IEC connector as backup to the powercon... If you apply power via the powercon connector, the pins on the IEC connector would be live, and wondering fingers can access the pins on the mounted IEC plug. You could be looking at trouble.

Great job and thanks for sharing the pics! I'm motivated now to build one with space for two laptops and Mackie ProFX8 mixer in the middle. I was concerned it would weight too much building it with wood but I think the Tuf Board is the answer. My goal is to walk in, take off the top, plug in the power cord, two mic cords and speaker cords to my power speaker and call it done!
If I can figure it out, I'd also like to have space for an American Audio Media Operator which I use as a 2nd backup and for cocktail and dinner music. I think if I use a six-inch frame, I should be able to fit it in.
The whole project is still in my head and need to put it to paper and draw plans out first.

I'd have to weigh it to know for sure, but it's lighter than an EON and lighter than my first homemade box pictured in the first post. Keep in mind that the cover isn't done yet.

If you go to the home store compare the PVC board to an equal size piece of wood and you'll see.

Another big weight saver here was the use 1/4" stock on the top and bottom. It's not bearing the load either due to the fact that everything rests on ledges.

Ben,

Maybe your thoughts on those 120V twist locks... I believe the theatrical industry demanded these.

Still I've seen Flush mount 15 amp receptacle, and then you use a good custom build electrical cord with leviton connectors on them.

No, the laptop stays in the case. The egg crate (convoluted) foam in the cover
will keep everything in place. Plus, everything (including the guts) is secured with industrial Velcro. So, even if you stand the case on its side, there's no worries. My old case functioned the same way.

My old case is still equipped and can easily be loaded when I go out.:sqcool:

If you were asking what I would do with this case should the Toshiba die, I would either find another around the same size or simply build another case. :sqwink:

I know you're (mostly) kidding, but I only bring what I need to have.
 
One thing about the Power Con connectors, if you wire up using that, an unauthorized person couldn't power up your rig if you took the cables, without having to rewire!

I have some handles, but I'm undecided about using them. It's only 32 inches wide and easy to lift.
