The page scroll effect of my site in FF and Safari is how I want it to be, IE7 was supposed to finally accept the fixed position tag to allow me to use that effect, but it throws off other absolute positions along the way. (To be honest...it's also difficult for me to try and fix the issue because I don't have a computer running IE7)

See, here's the thing folks -
My hosting service (freeservers.com) provides the pre-designed templates from which I have to choose. I have no control as far as I know, over how they appear on one browser or another. Apparently, they haven't taken into account how to provide templates that are universally accepted across all browsers.
I hope this helps you understand what I am up against. Your info does provide good food for thought, though.
Travis did make me an offer for a new site design and hosting service thru his company, and I may need to rethink things after this discussion.

It could be any number of things, from curious surfers, to click fraud, to the region of the country I am in, to my rates that I charge for events, etc.....
I don't have the answers to those questions, but one thing I do have a problem with, is the new keyword bids that Yahoo is charging....some of the bids are as high as $10.00 per keyword, and that in my book is just overblown.
Geeze for that price you could build your own internet....
I predicted this a few years ago when PPC was a good value at a few cents a click once enough were on board they would add "Value" to words the unfortunate part is there are some business so dependant on PPC that they will have to pay it and the rates stay up
Unless the numbers are skewered by Google and Yahoo you are in for some big gains by way of name recognition in the next couple of years. 11 million impressions in a market with 200,000 people has to be good

Ok let me chime in here a bit.
1st off on the maps issue. I know exactly what Wes is saying in a perfect town the end user would see right through the map and local listings.. NOT HERE in the piedmont triad. Gregs position on the top of the map is probably converting very well. End users here dont realize that side ads are paid for and maps entries are made by the clientle.

he is coming back with the exact same response most of our end users would
oh we saw you at the top of the page.
Me and Daniel and Vance all ask people where they heard about 1st Carolina and if its google we ask them oh really do you know where on the page you saw us and its almost always on the top or the side.
On most of the common searches we are the 1st LOCAL organic result. Being confident in this i pulled our ppc for a month to see if there are any noticeable differences.
im getting a lot of non-google inquiries right now.
so here in greensboro nc or winston salem Greg definitely knows the importance of the google map.
On his campaigns i'd bet if he took the ppcs down and stuck with his map position he'd garner the exact same results. We're spending $400 per month on ppc (at least prior to december) which pretty much guaranteed us first unless some a-hole just clicked out my budget.

I would say that I am not spending near as much as Kyle is on PPC campaigns, but it's still a hit in the wallet. Sometimes I wonder if the click fraud device that both services employ really works. I just checked my AdWords account for all three campaigns that are currently running, and each got at least 3 clicks for the keyword "DJ equipment".
This makes me wonder two things -
1) Are my campaigns being scoped out by people that are thinking about getting into the business since the economy is so bad? (This topic has been discussed here and on other boards numerous times)
or
2) Are potential customers scoping out my campaigns to see what kind of equipment I use?
or perhaps a combination of both?

It's primarily because your product is not immediately "convertable" into a sale.
If you were selling office supplies or software people could click through and purchase immediately.
People clicking through on a DJ link are not "buyers" they are "researchers."
Most will not even be qualified customers looking for a DJ.
To convert a researcher into a buyer you need them to take something with them from your site; a download, a link, a white-paper, etc. - something they will use to return or spread the word about you.

Guys with respect a lot of you blow money at the PPC ads without getting your website in order first.
Were I to choose to run a PPC campaign in Charlotte for wedding DJs or whatever I would easily rank above the highest payer for less - it's what I do.
I do manage a few DJ campaigns and one in particular is growing so fast he is going multi and taking over a tidy sized market. No names from me ever this is private.
I have others worrying about not getting bookings at Christmas but a stats tool - no not a freebie, crap one tells me this is the worse Christmas for DJs since stats have been collected for the www - no not Alexa or any of the bilge sites
I do this for a living and think DJs will have a good 2009 but diversifying is key as I see more differing search phrases (phrases not keywords) than in previous years
Karaoke will be back next year not with the initial bang that it had but I see a lot of local live band searches dropping and karaoke on an upward trend.
If you're full time (or want to kill yourself doing two jobs) I would add karaoke - really good karaoke with a personality hosting the events.
Back to PPC It's how it's done and managed that is key - I have one adWords DJ that has the language of a country as a keyword on a broad match - obviously he is getting a ton of impressions but CTR? Nothing......
I gave him a nice bollocking and the term is now gone....
Greg PPC and Organic is the absolute best way to go and you should embrace it because I can practically say that you would dominate for peanuts in your market - I looked at your Word Doc and would love to see your real Google Ads account - I have a Google MCC (My Control panel) which can morph your account into mine without me seeing credit cards or personal details - I'd be happy to take a look - this is all Google approved and is for adWords Pros
Bet Kyle's losing a $hitload too.......
