denon dnx500 subwoofer out

Does anyone actually use the Subwoofer output and how functional is the
x-over knob and how loud is this out?.

Also are there other 19" mixers with a subwoofer out that are more affordable that are also reliable?

I have the mixer, but never used this function I go straight into the sub and then out from my sub into the mains. I have the b52 act18 sub.

I would also check and see if the crossover frequency cancels the selected frequency from the main output. If it does that helps things out, if it doesn't I would get an external crossover (ie. DBX 223XL or 234XL) that way you'll really get the most out of your system. The mid and high amp(s) will not struggle to reproduce the low frequencies which will drive them into clipping for no reason at all.

Trust me once you set up a bi or tri amp system properly you'll be amazed how great it sounds .

The Behringer VMX-1000 has a sub out, but I was never happy with the output level on the one I had.

We've never used it.

The sub out patch is there for use primarily with active speaker systems. Patch it to your active sub input and there you are. You'll still need to filter the low frequencies from your mains, though.

With passive speaker systems, the mixer sub out could be patched to the amp that's used for your sub(s) but I don't suggest doing this. Doc is right ~ passive systems should be bi- or tri-amped with an electronic or active crossover. You'll have much better control over your sound.

I wouldnt be using it... Take your main lines out, cross them youself and then go to the amps/ speakers...
Ive use the Mackie active 18", it has the L & R in, crossed off the bottom and only sends everything above 100Hz to the mains... works great sounds great...

Thanks guys. I do have a stand alone crossover. I was just looking at this option since I would be needing a new mixer soon and wondered if this would be an opportunity to further cut back on my gear in the rack.
