I think I need to go ahead and buy another data projector. I need one that can project on a 6' x 8' screen from as short a distance as possible. My current projector a Dell 2400MP has to be about 12' maybe more back.

Don't forget about bounce mirrors. Just flip the image on the projector and bounce it off a mirror. It can cut your distance in half.
There are short throw lens available - I remember an install a few years ago and had less than 4' for an 96" screen. I used NEC LT155's with a short throw lens.

The only option out there with the smallest footprint is the one I suggested. The biggest downside to it is, 2000 lumens. Another downside is that it will not fill anything bigger that a 6'x8'. It will fill a 6'x8' screen from about 4 feet away and a 5'x7' from about 2 feet away. I have been using it for about 4 years now.

Some of the upper level Hitachi's come with a variety of lenses that can be replaced, usually the standard lens isn't the best, and you got to buy a short throw.
Also 2600 lumens ouch, My Eiki is 4000 and can handle anything you throw at it (within reason), lights up and still a decent viewable pictures. anything in the 2K range is just asking for problems down the road. Spend the extra hundred bucks and get a bright projector!

I recently purchased a short throw projector and am very happy with it. I was previously looking at the BenQ771, but, bought an Optoma EX525ST instead.
The Optoma can fill a 100" diagonal from only 4'. The resolution is awesome, colors bright and vivid, 25 or 2600 lumens, high contrast #'s, has VGA, uxga, hdmi, and s-video connections, auto keystone, can fill up to 300" diagonal, and was less than $1400 shipped.

I was going from memory and stand corrected, The EX525ST has a DVI-I, not HDMI... Of course, it also has composite video and networking capability, as well as USB mouse control, but, I thought if he was interested, that I could give him some basic information that he could look up and make a decision comparing apples to apples.

Well, I'm just in from doing an all music-video gig, 18th B-day party for two girls. Had about 100 teens and three parents.
This was my first time using my Optoma EX525ST with my new screenworks 2vu screen (bought while in Vegas last month).
First of all, the screen was super easy and fast to set up. I purchased the 4' skirting and it was worth the cost. The snaps fit perfectly, even an aerospace engineer would be happy with the fit and finish of the screenworks frame and screen.
The Optoma was a breeze to set up, selected rear projection from the menu and the video turned itself around 180 degrees so the words (credits) read correctly. The Optoma has a manual focus and I relally liked that. Fined tuned it in seconds and everything was good to go.
The Optoma EX525ST is rated at 2500 lumens and I have to say I was impressed with teh brightness. I was playing at a country club, so they had windows everywhere with a view of the course. Even prior to the sun going down (plenty of ambient light) the projector was bright enough to show the video clearly. What I wasn't prepared for, was how bright the video's made the dance floor in front of the screen.
The short throw technology is worth upgrading. The screen wasn't any further away from the wall than the front of my truss. 4' and it filled my 100" diagonal. In a school gym, 100 inches might not seem like much, but in a country club that is focused on wedding receptions, it seemed huge, not too big, but... big...
I noticed the price has dropped several hundred dollars on the Optoma since it was released last November. I highly recommend looking into choosing it over the BenQmp771. You could almost buy two of the EX525ST's for the price of one BenQ.

I also have a 5' x 7" screen that I've been using for a few years now. I agree it's a great size for weddings. It sure would be nice to have a 4' throw compared to 12' with my current NECLT245!

Anyone had any experience with the NEx GT2000R 1000 ansi. I need a short throw max 5' for 6x9 screen. Might have an opportunity to buy the above but it is in another state. Hate to get it and it won't do the job.

I just bought this and you can get it through Ben I think my total price was 1650 dollars. I wanted it because I was told its awesome and because of the short throw distance.
