I just got my first booking for Feb 13, 2010 today. Yeah!

Thoughts on booking nearly a year in advance?

Awesome news, Jokerman!

No problem with a year, but 2 would be the max I'd be willing to commit myself to.

I'm not sure, but I believe that we have at least one on the books for 2010....

I have one for July 2010. Have had that one for a few months. They saw me, wanted me booked me without asking any questions except "Are you available". I like those.

I have a dozen or so for 2010 right now and one for 2011. Seems July 23 is going to be a very popular date we have three that day

For me this is a new mile stone... last year's mile stone was booking a 2009 event just a few months before the start of 2009... this year it's booking one dang near a year in advance.

They came in prepaired to book... they had price quotes from some of the bigger guys in the area starting at around 700 and up to 1200.00.

What this tells me is #1 my rates are way to low and #2 I need to revisit my rates for 2010 and up.

So here's a question and a thought.

In the hotel business lots of times for special event weekends we will have the rates high and then as the event date gets closer we revisit our rates and booking pace and decide to either keep them, raise them or lower them depending on traffic.

I'm thinking this might be a wise way to structure my priceing as well. Thoughts?

Get Busy first.

In the hotel business people know this and risk waiting last minute. When planning a big event most don't risk this. You are only getting one shot at the booking usually put your best foot forward

remember the Holiday Inn has many rooms, how do you compare?

Very good points... I'm not saying it's a good idea to jack the price up like a hotel would for a known special event which means usually a tripling of normal rates.... I mean raise the rates a little like you would for a normal price increase.... then later in the year re-evaluate as 2010 approaches.

If you were going to do that start with the long weekends, Thanksgiving, Labour Day etc. and see how it works out

It'd be cool if the instant quote systems worked that way... where I could setup a package and description, once, and then be able to just set date ranges and rates without having to create a ton of new packages.

In other words it'd be nice to be able to create:

Package A: Package description A

Jan 1 to Mar 31 - Rate A
Apr 1 to July 30 - Rate B
Aug 1 to Dec 31 - Rate C

Unfortunately the way Gigbuilder is designed I would have to create a Package A, B, and C separately in order to accomplish this... too much a PITA to do so.

be careful with that however the savy shopper will notice and you can lose business because of this.for example if i check your site for a 2011 date and it gives me $500 and i bookmark and print that, then in 2010 i check back and the rates go up considerably or go up above what i expect,i would take my business elsewhere, but thats just me.i'm just saying weigh the pros and cons before you do anything.

True but if your rates only go out to the end of 2010 for example someone checking for 2011 is going to get a message that says please call for rates and availability.

Hotels work much the same way... we only look into the future by 50 weeks... so if one were to try and book us in say June of 2010 they wont see any rooms available.

We have a beach wedding contracted Downstate for August 2010. :)

I love it. It gives us plenty of lead time to get things in order... and plenty of time for the B&G to change their minds plenty of times. ;)

I've got two weddings booked for March and April 2010 so far. A bunch of quotes out as well.

I see the economy loosening up a bit, but things are still quite shaky.

The repercussions of Chrysler dumping 800 dealers, and the anticipated announcement tomorrow morning that General Motors is axing 1000 dealers, is going to cause an incalculable ripple that could change our economy for many years to come. Hold on tight!
