what I love is that they cater to the rich and famous..... who are always looking on Craigs lists! LOL
 
I think the B&G flaked out, thinking they could hire a DJ that carried insurance, and had a business license.

The newest venue in town The Westin, requires a copy of the DJ's insurance and business license to be on file, man I wish they would all start this. I dropped in to look at a venue where I have a reception in October. This is a private dinner club, while talking to the manager I ask him if they needed to have a copy of my insurance and business license, and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said he had never heard of such a thing. I explained to him about the Westin's rules he said, "It's not required here".
 
They could offer me $250.00 with two days notice and I wouldn't show up for their wedding either.

The response was in poor taste. It's no wonder why people see us as a bunch of wildcatters. :(
 
I'm guessing $250.00 is the magic rate for a DJ on Craigslist.

We need a wedding DJ for our wedding reception in Sacramento CA. We need someone that has their own equipment and is willing to make announcements and move the reception along. Just the simple stuff like announcing our first dance, dinner time, etc...just the typical stuff. This is going to be small backyard reception. We are guessing we will have around 50 people show, maybe less. We dont know the number for sure at this point in time. We really dont want any rap or hip hop type of music. Pretty much everthing else is ok. Our type of music is country and rock though. I need to secure a DJ by July 12th so please contact me as soon as possible so we can discuss this over the phone. We are willing to pay $250.00 for about 4 or 5 hours. Thanks in advance.

I am seeing more & more venues down here requiring liability insurance, partly due to the efforts of our local ADJA chapter and partly due to an unfortunate incident last year in which a speaker fell on the head of a 3-4 year old boy. A band was playing on a 2d story patio and one of their powered speakers on a tripod went over the wall to the ground floor. The kid will have major medical issues for the rest of his life.

Also, many venues are discovering that requiring liability insurance also weeds out the wannabe DJs that could reflect poorly on their venue

(That's what you get for this price point - $250 - a HS kid in saggy jeans with radio shack equipment, playing stolen Rap MP3s on a laptop computer!)

I always laugh when I see this price point thrown around, because it was my price, starting out! My first gig was $200 (for AFOAF) and then I was $250 for 4 hours playing time--- until 1988.

Back then, gasoline was under 98 cents per gallon, eggs were $1 a dozen, etc.

to supply

Power generator for outdoor BEACH weddings (which means exposure to sand and water elements)

(For a wedding I am not going to go out for less than $600)

Light packages start at $100 and that is just for the mirror ball and a 4 unit par bar.

Supplying power generator is another $100

To do a beach event means I am tacking on another $200 for setup, clean up and PITA factor.

So now we at are a level of $1000 minimum for the gig

This person was asking for all of this for $250!

I think you are confusing doing weddings with being a DJ!
